Here's my dilema, The old monitor let me use BG's etc and resize them to cover the white/black of the default without showing any border round the slide. I've tried to do this again with the new monitor and lo and behold there is a border round the slide no matter what I do. I have my slides resized to 1400 x 933 and I just cant get rid of the black or white bands round the slides. Is this a consequence of Widescreen monitors or have I new methods to learn now? Andrew.

I had to get a new computer and monitor...the perils of having grandchildren..." Grandad, we dont get to use dad's computer " [sigh] Sooooo.... I got a new monitor as well, a 23" widescreen. Everything now looks so different. What size should/would be best for this monitor [1920 x 1080] Any advice would be most welcome. Andrew.

In O & A How to see the slide 'below '
trailertrash replied to trailertrash's topic in General Discussion
Hope I'm explaining this right. There are 3 images, one behind the other. When I try to work on the middle one, the top one is always in the way, so I cant really see whats heppening to the middle one. [see screen shot] I checked the box ignore not selected, but the top image stays put. Is there any way to make it get out of the way so I can see the middle and bottom slide? Andrew -
In O & A when using slide 2 below slide 1 how do I set the programme to only show me the slide I'm working with. I cant for the life of me figure it out and cant work properly with the bottom slide, cause the top slide is always in the way. Have I explained that correctly? Any help would be appreciated, cause its doing my head in. Andrew

Would the Admin consider a WIP section where I or anyone else could post small examples of a sequence for advice before posting the whole thing. Andrew.

Outstanding. If we ever wanted to see what hell looked like, that's it.

Thanks Mark. I'm glad they enjoyed it. It makes the work we all put into it worth while. Thank you for showing it. Andrew.

Yep. I'll be very aware of the timeing v music when I do alter it. I have no wish to ruin our masterpiece.

Great call. I actually wondered how that was done. I thought about putting in a blank white with short times ect but all the time there's a way to do it. You guys are awesome. Andrew.

While we were in Krakow, I did manage to get some shots of other things. It's a beautiful, vibrant, busy city and a photographers paradise. As you'll see in the show wheelchair access isnt all that good, so I did have some problems getting in and out of some places, but there was always someone who was willing to help. However I did have to get on my sticks and actually walk a bit of it. I know I'll be back there some time. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?wyym2uzvuzx

Lennart, It is possible to ask for 'one time use' or in my description 'single use' permission. I asked for permission to include the 2 tracks in one show only which will be publicaly displayed once, and once only at our exhibition. I didnt mention that it has to go thro the selection process and then the competition, so I guess in the spirit of the law I'm in violation, but if you wont tell, I wont. Andrew.

Excellent Patrick. I love the atmosphere of the shots. Everybody loves the circus.

Davy, Pacemakers and walking sticks are in abundance with us, so I'm going to have the Paramedics on standby. I do know what you mean, but the judge will have these shows for a couple of months before they are shown back to the club and he'll no doubt go through them with a tooth comb. Ken, yes, I'll include that on the notes on the disc front. We are asked to put a note in with the disc for any special instructions. I want to do a nice disc label for this show, even tho it will be an .exe file, it may just add a touch or professionalism, and get me that extra point. Andrew

For the more experienced users to create an average slide show. My current project has been 10 days and counting, and I just wondered how long it takes those of you who know exactly what your doing.
-
Superb. I rated it 10. Where is that? It looks great.

My club uses a 1400x1050 projector and we're told to keep our images to that size. We just spent £4000 on a laptop and projector combo which is a hell of a lot of money for us. our subs are £30 [$45] annually which I think is pretty good. I still dont understand the aspect ratio thing yet but hope these discussions will enlighten me. Andrew.

I fixed the text intro slide spaces using the grid thingy in PS to get it exact. I also redone the credits slide to remove the names and include the fact that I bought a 2 track single use licence for the show. Lst year one of the entries had scans of a famous calender in it and the judge refused to mark it due to copyright infringement. I was determined that was not going to happen, so prior to my visit I contacted the publisher and bought a 2 track single use licence for the show. They were more than happy to help when I told their PR dept what I was doing. So here we are with an adjusted version: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?qnz5dywjygy Andrew.

Peter: I'll revisit the Intro to correct the line spacing today. Ken: Thank you for pointing me to those keyboard shortcuts. I never knew they were there. Timing: The upper limit for shows for the competition is 8 mins. Now Im up to 9:26 secs which is ok, because I actually built in time I can get back. By reducing the slide time by 1 sec I can claw back 56 secs and there are actually 2 slides in there which I can take out if I have to apply a 'Directors cut', so I'm confident the show can go ahead as it now stands and meet the rules. Davy: Wow, Thats a very powerful intro. For any other purpose I think I would go along those lines, but for the camera club audience I dont think it would work. Let me explain: Last year, the winning entries [those chosen to represent the club] were virtually holiday snap shows. Seriously! I watched in awe [i'd never used this type of programme before] as pics of Italy and the leaning tower flashed in and out of the screen, Rome faded in and out and the Grand Canyon and Vegas came in an explosion of fireworks, but I though, they were all missing the point. I so wanted to see a show that taught me something, and also held me spell bound for the duration. Thats when I made my mind up to realise an ambition and get my subject matter for my masterpiece. A show such as you describe would do exactly as I have described for me...but not I think for the members who vote on the shows at the end of the selection night. I am very very grateful that you took the time and trouble to create an intro and upload it for me to see. Thats what I have learned about this forum already. Everyone will help if they can. This show has evolved from a pretty amatuerish first attempt to a show which I think knocks last years entries out of the park. I dont know how the members will see it, but selected or not, I am very very proud of it. Andrew.

I finally figured out where that damn space should be. It just didnt look as if there should be one. [My head hurts] Fixed the Reichsführer-SS [where can I find a list of those Colin and the keys that produce them?] Fixed Crematorium #1. OK, This is what I consider to be the final version. I corrected the dates and the text lines and having reviewed it again and again I'm more proud of this than I can tell you. With the help I've had I know I have the best chance to get a place in the exhibition. THANK YOU ALL. If anyone wants to use it for any purpose, please feel free to do so. I standardised the date format and have corrected the Reichfuhrer-SS line. As for keeping the show in colour, I wasnt trying to recreate the camp as it was, but to keep the memory of that day for a long time, thus the day was in colour, so I wanted the show in colour. Nothing special, just a personal preference. The music was always going to be Schindler. I dont know why, I just cant get past it for this. Currently deleting the file from mediafire and loading the corrected/Final version. I'll post it now and add the link in a minute. [Pausing for breath after having had my 3 grandaughters and Grandson for a week.]

My friends, I more than appreciate the help and very sound and valid advice I have had from you. It has been a steep learning curve, there's no denying it, but I was determined to get it the best I could. Of- course anyone who wishes to use it may do so with my best wishes. The lessons I have learned in creating this can only be an advantage. I have to take my grandchildren home today, so I'll post the final version tonight or tomorrow. Thank you so much. Andrew.

Your right Maureen. I'll deal with that now. Thanks Maureen. Andrew

Ken. The selection night is in September/October depending on the incoming presidents sylabus. There are usually 11-15 entries of which 4 are chosen to represent the club against our opponent of that year. They are then judged by an independent judge and shown to both clubs with a recorded commentry by the judge. They are scored indivually for the club entries and the total deceides the winning club. The judges score also dictates the local placings but the 4 selected are also shown as part of the annual exhibiton. Its quite a feather in the cap to be one of the four chosen to represent the club. We have some very good AV authors. So yes the test will be in 2010 when the interclub competition takes place. Andrew.
