Thank you Lin Actually this happened to my brother in law who lives in Hungary and we just finished translating PTE 6.5 to Hungarian. He was trying to do his first PTE by using the Hungarian version of the manual. We work by Skype and I have desktop control over his computer since he has MS and sometimes there is some issue with motor control. So I could not figure out being X-mas eve were to look for the problem and he was getting nervous. That is why I posted so I can give him a definite answer tomorrow. I Really appreciate your reply. I will be sending the translation to Alana most likely by next week. At this point we are at the 5th reading. Thanks again and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Laszlo

Today I was helping a friend of mine but could not figure out were the problem was. He is using V 6.5 When we tried to preview the project we got a pop up saying: When you use "Synchronize music and slides" option you can not use personal playlist of slides. So I removed the Synchronize music and slide tick and at that point it would start playing but the music would stop after 4-5 slides. He had two MP3 track on the show one is about 31/2 minutes the other about 11/2 minutes. I have never come across the -PERSONAL PLAYLIST_ anywhere in the program during my involvement with it. And because of that had no clue were to find solution. The whole thing would play in the small play window without any problem. I use 99% of the time wav files because of glitches and compression issues with MP3 so I suggested to mix and export the audio in Audacity as .WAV and try it with that Any better idea or what and were is the personal playlist? Thanks Laszlo

Thanks Peter. I guess for some of the animation I will go back to V 6.5 to simplify things It is not that I have issues with frames but I think for a title that I was doing it has taken maybe 30 seconds top do but with frames is another story. In the club with my group I have to make thing simple or they walk. Laszlo

Recently a friend of mine asked me to help him with his project. It included an animation which is simple but V 7 would refuse to do it. It would be a panoramic image of the surrounding of the pyramids in Egypt. 30 second time set for the image. A pan from left to right for about 10 second were a keypoint was made, from that zoom in to the last pyramid following the angle of the structure at the end another keypoint was made and than go wide to show the panorama. V7 would ignore all points and would go to panorama from the first keypoint. It seem that the last point will determine the direction. Today I was making a title simple stuff 8 second duration at 4 second a keypoint was created to hold the title for 4 second than another was placed at the end of the line about 8 second and 90 degree rotation 3D applied and slight zoom to have the title spin off the screen. The result was the title started to spin by the 3D/zoom movement from the first keypoint ignoring the one in the middle. Oddly enough all this works in V 6.5 Any idea? I have been working with PTE since V4 and I find this peculiar. Laszlo

Just in the past few days 3 people had the same issues wit AVG. Quarantined and altered. Hence no sign of it. All three was giving me a hard time that I have uploaded infected file to Rapidshare. I downloaded so as my wife and others using different virus scans without any problem. I'm using ESET Internet Security. The problem is with AVG. Laszlo

I have just installed V 7 and looking for new buttons or missing ones and came to realize that the wavform and the light table from bottom right are missing. Gone over the PDF and the program and could not find them. Are they gone? Laszlo

Just a curious dead end. I have been in the process of translating the PTE manual to Hungarian and as the result of that I read the manuals each letter. On page 18 in the Advanced Option section it is written: Set Graphical Editor and Sound Editor I did set mine and when I tried to demonstrate to my group how it works. only the Graphical Editor would find the path and do its job by going to Image - Edit Picture. The path to the Audio Editor (Audacity) was also input but I can not find how to activate it. Is it a dead end? Or there is a bridge somewhere that I can not see. Thanks Laszlo

Glad you are back Lin and things have stabilized with your health. I guess you just have to pay a bit more attention to yourself. Laszlo

Hi All. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on my desktop, on the other hand my wife's machine is running on XP pro and my laptop also XP pro have the same issue. But I managed to succeed finally. While before one had to have two windows open to make it work, this time I tried Stue's advise: Prepare slide / copy / file / open recent (project to paste to) and paste. It worked like a charm Thanks a lot guys Laszlo

I found MP3 is like JPEG's. When you work within editing environment you have to save and reopen a number of times. MP3 is being compressed and you will end up with clipping and or audio artifacts (screech) because of re-compression. Is like converting JPEG to TIFF for major manipulation. You don't want to loose more than what is lost already. For PTE I have been using only WAV files going back to the V4... series. I don't even keep MP3's on my computer. Mi note was just to draw attention to the particular converter program indicated. While it works well, the WAV files produced by it will not work with PTE. I'm sure there are more like this one Laszlo

Back in the Version 4... era we could copy a slide from one project to the other. I have tried it but it does not work. Can we still copy somehow a slide from project "A" to Project "B"? Laszlo

Hi All. One of the people that I teach the workings of PTE had some issues with audio and I had some problem trouble shooting thorough the phone. Well yesterday I was working on e 3 minutes piece with 3 audio files. All were in .wav format. When I was importing the third one I got a warning ( attached ) that I have never seen before. After several different approaches I came to the conclusion that there was something wrong with the file itself. I have tested with Win Media Player, Soundforge, Audacity, and Pinnacle Studio 14. All would play it without a glitch, except PTE. I realized that the file was given to me by my son in MP3 format and I converted it to .WAV with "AVS audio file converter". Than I imported the same music in MP3 format and was all running OK. I also converted the same file in Soundforge,( from MP3 to WAV) and the file was playing fine in PTE. So my problem was solved but this note is to warn others with converted files to see if they work well for your need. "AVS for you" might work for lots conversion but but here is an issue with it. I have been using a great little program for years without a glitch called AUDIOGRABBER for ripping audio CD-s. It is free and will save as Wav and or MP3. Super fast and great quality. Laszlo

Yeah, I have seen your posts Xavier and I was looking for something like your image ( Audacity) of at least 2 or 3 tracks with the space to work ( the length of the slide show)so you can time all at the same time. Having used to edit video it was what I was trying to find, and when I did not see it I asked for some tutorial so I can pass it on in my club. Laszlo
-
Thank's Peter, That is the way it looked to me. I do have several programs to deal with audio. Just installed and have not really played with it yet. Busy translating the tutorial to Hungarian. Laszlo

I have a hard time finding a tutorial on the handling and blending of multiple audio tracks. Any ideas? Laszlo
-
Well, we decided and started to translate the V5.6 tutorial from English to Hungarian. When it is done it will be passed over to the PTE group and it will be posted on the site if all goes well., Laszlo

I have a relative in Hungary who does not speak English. He would like to learn about PTE. Is there any group or forum or a manual on Hungarian that he can turn to? He has multiple sclurosis so his mobility is very limited. We are working on different computer related programs by Skype and a desktop control program. I sent him some of my projects and he can see the way I do it. So before I get him the program I would like if he can learn the subject. Laszlo

I have some similar problem to Johann. I have created a multi page collage of around 80 PTE's. Works beautifully on my desktop and my laptop as well. Any other computer will not respond to a button or thumbnail click to go farther ( second and third page ). Came to the conclusion that on my both computer since the project was created on the Desktop oddly enough but my laptop has the same path to the folders and the EXE's. So it works. On all others will not. I have tried to delete part of the path, than using quotation marks than it might work on one out of the four computers but still not universaly like PTE's do. I did the correction on an external drive and that plays on 3 machines from the drive but not off the copy. How a project like this could be shared like a PTE. Regards Laszlo

Thanks for the great article Peter! As a kind of respond to your article. I had built my project on two machine parallel. It sounds weird but that is the case. I started on my desktop and that is an XP Home machine custom built, powerfull since I use it also for video editing. About 3 years old still on SP2 ( SP3 would not load up, tried it twice ). There are no updates on it. The other computer is also a custom built, but laptop, it can have 3 internal drives ( got only 2 in it ). 4 months old and runs on XP Pro SP3, updated manualy as needed. Your word applies "beefy". Both units run EXE's like a seamless movie. I started the project with the desktop but had a copy on the laptop ( both have a very quick flicker at the bottom edge when you call up a PTE from a control page ). Then I would add projects at our AV meeting so the whole group can see the process on the laptop, and at home I would transfer the changes to the desktop. Now the projects are produced on a dozen different machines from XP to Vista and Win7 with graphics cards from the bottom to the top end, and with at least 3 different versions of PTE. With all this as core information I still get the quick flicker on both machine and all projects. I will change the Taskbar settings and see. The attachement is the guide line that I was using to build the whole project and yesterday was the Club demonstration of it. Well, it worked like a charm thanks to all involved. Thank Ken! Now all is clear Even within the path. Interesting. Laszlo

Thanks Stu! That makes a good point. Since the projects that we were doing were about windows, well, there are lots of windows names as projects. It might be a good idea to somehow incorporate in the help or a note in the pop-up window as an example. Maybe there are others like me who would not understand the meaning of the note. Thanks again Laszlo

I have tested it again today and got a message u nder the window in a red bar saying " RESTRICTED FILES ARE NOT LISTED" You click on this red bar and it will open a notebook page were there is an indication that there is something not right with the filename. The PTE plays OK without a hitch. I placed the viewer icon on my desktop for a second check and opened up. It came up trying to load all PTE's on the machine and 6 files that had problem with. See attachement. I wonder what could be wrong with the name that make it restricted when all plays well. I have over 150 shows on my computer and the Collage were some of this shows are contain 90 of them. Laszlo PlayView_NoList.txt

Hi Stu! I used your viewer yesterday at the club but for some reason it would not see a PTE from the group, it did not show up in the window. Is it possible that it might have been done with a different version and that would take it out of the list? Laszlo
