I am using PTE Delux 9.0.14 on a win 10 PC. The last time I used PTE it was running perfectly well. I have not used PTE for over a year. I need to make a new project and ran PTE today and got the error message -- Access violation at address 0075A6B4 in module 'PicturesToExe.exe'. Read of address 00000000. at startup. I continued on and am having trouble with the file list displaying correctly and cannot access anything in it. I have rebooted the PC restarted PTE but still get the error and folder/file problems. Please help. SORRY everyone! I just found the answer on the forum, my first search didn't. I have updated to 9.0.0.22 and the problem is solved. I do have one question though, as I said earlier it has been sometime since I used PTE so it may be my memory but I don't see any .pte project files in the file list. They are there in the folder in windows explorer. Is this normal? I have checked the file association in windows and the .pte files are tied to PTE as they should be, and when I click on them they open in PTE. If so I think it would be very useful to have them display in the file list in PTE. If not can you tell me why this would happen and how to fix it please? thanks in advance, Joanne.

Reckoning slideshow duration for competitions
Photo99 replied to dorsetbay's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
Hi, I found this old post when I was searching for the origin of the 321 AV competition but cannot find anywhere on the NET where the term 321 for AVs came from. :(/> Is there anyone who knows? A friend thinks it is from the time a roll of Super 8 film would run (3minutes 21seconds). Can anyone help? thanks Joanne -
Big thanks Lin & Dave. You guys are just the "Bees Knees" as we say here. I was playing with the mask but just couldn't get it to work, you have shown me the light. thanks heeps, Joanne

Thanks Lin just what I needed. Hope I am not pushing the friendship but a follow-up question if I may-- Is it possible to have the scrolling text fade in at the bottom and fade out at the top of the background slide. I think this would look better than just coming in from the edge of the slide. I am thinking of using a frame around the images in the show and don't want the text scrolling over the frame. Thanks again for your wonderful help. Joanne

I have text scrolling vertically over a slide, a big step forward for me. As there is a lot of text I would like to have the slide behind it change several times while the text continues to scroll, but am having trouble doing this. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. Joanne.

Having posted this in the software area and received no replies I thought maybe I had it in the wrong area so I am reposting it here. I know it really is not strictly a PTE question but when we are able to mix video into a PTE show it will be. I have a question that is in two parts and I am sure is not too difficult for all you experts out there. A---Over many years I have collected a large number of short videos of my family and friends. They are in a number of different formats that I wish to merge into one video file - many MP4s some AVIs and WMVs also FLV and SWF and a few others. Can you tell me of a software tool to do this preferably shareware or free please? B---Once I have this file I would love to put it onto a DVD that I can view on my TV I have PAL TV system here. How do I do this? This would also allow me to easily give a copy to my family and friends. I realize there will be some quality loss but this is not important as the content is priceless to us. Thanks in advance for your help. Joanne.

I totally agree. PTE is an Audio & Image -AV- program which should allow the user to assemble images and audio files with equal tools. In previous versions the image tools have been developed and are excellent but the audio was lacking. Igor has begun the process of addressing this imbalance in v6.5 thus continuing to develop and improve PTE. Yes why are we revisiting a debate that was had long ago or are we living in the past. The world has moved on and we should to. Well done Igor and keep up the good work.

I should have added this to my last post. In regard to the rather silly quote "if it ain't broke don't fix it" if the human race followed that philosophy we would all still be in the stone age. It would appear some hasn't heard of the word improve. Just because it ain't broke we shouldn't try to make it better???

A little background. What caused my old stone-age PC to come to a holt in the end was too many programs running in the background all sorts of things I did not want or use. Things like tool-bars - net connections to download updates or add-ons I did not want or know about - all sorts of tools running in the background that I had no knowledge about - software sitting on my HD that I never used loading it up and got there without my knowledge and so on. This came about partly because I started as a complete computer novice and also has some bad advice. Once bitten twice shy particular of bad advice. So the main instruction to my PC builder was I wanted a clean machine with only the OS and my virus checker and nothing else loaded. I now have a brother in the IT industry and with his help have become a little computer literate also now know some of the pitfalls to avoid. Over the last few months I have slowly loaded only the precise tools and applications that I require and have been very happy with the result. A disk burning program was the last of the programs in this process. The reasons I did not want to continue with Nero was it caused me problems along the lines stated above and is against my new PC house-keeping philosophy. Just one example of this is the audio editor in Nero I use Audacity so why should I have that on my PC when I will never use it. I know it is impossible to have only exactly what you want but it is possible to get much much closer than Nero will allow. Nero would also cost me money to upgrade to V9 money better spent in other areas and so on. Windows 7 Pro 64bit has been 100% fault free for me runs like a rocket and all my peripherals and software have loaded without any issues. In fact some work even better now. PTE setup OK and I did a quick check to see if I could load and preview a project this was OK also checked a few other functions quickly. Now I have finally got my system fully configured I will start using PTE in more depth and see if there are any problems there with Win7 64bit so far so good. Joanne

Good point Ken I had already considered Bluray and Ashampoo Burning Studio 6.77 and several others I have looked at all handle it. I had Bluray put in my new PC system. I am currently evaluating Ashampoo Burning Studio 6.77 and it looks pretty good the only function it lacks is a one step disk copy so if anyone knows of anything else they think is better I would love to know about it. thanks Joanne

I did not say I was happy with Nero nor did I say it wasn't broke. I simply said it was old and I did not want to load it on my new PC. You assume too much and read into my post what is not there and did not answer my question. Very unhelpful. My question was-- Can anyone tell me of a good shareware or freeware CD/DVD burning package that I can download and use?

Thanks MickyP the Ashampoo Burning Studio 6.77 looks like what I want and as I now run Win7 64bit the information that it runs fine on that OS is important too. Thanks Joanne
