OK - my "wanted photo" has been sent to Andrew. Hope it doesn't break his monitor!

A great show with nice pictures, effective transitions and a well-chosen sound track. Thank you for sharing it with us.

An excellent show, congratulations & thank you for sharing it with us. I'm now going to look at the update.

Thanks a lot - I'll follow up the links.

Thank Ron - I was aware of Maureen's comments about these speakers but have been unable to work out which ones they are on the website!

I'd welcome any opinions/advice on purchasing loudspeakers for use with my laptop when used to show pte presentations in a small/medium room (say up to 30 people). The speaker in the projector isn't up to the job. Any advice on specifications, suitable products and other practicalities would be very welcome. I don't want to spend a small fortune but need something that will do the job!

I update regularly with no problems. Just download and run the latest version - you don't need to delete the other one.

Thanks for the info, Brian. It'll prove very useful.

I'd be interested in details of a suitable specification too.

I've just checked PTE for slide rotation & it works fine with version 4.3. Here's what I did: 1. Using "View" from the command bar I chose "Horizontal view" 2. In the bottom pane where all the thumbnails are displayed, I right-clicked on one of my images 3. A pop-up menu appears offering to let me do various things, including "rotate clockwise" & "rotate counterclockwise". I chose the option and it worked just like that. I hope this helps.

I continue to watch this with considerable admiration for your tenacity in refining this utility. Excellent work!

It all worked fine for me - including the navigation panel. I'm sure the couple will be delighted with the photographs and this presentation of them. I didn't recognise the music - it fitted beautifully. And I thought the black background worked well too - making the colours stand-out nicely. Just a small point but I would have made the page numbers less intrusive - smaller font and perhaps on the bottom lefthand side. I realise why they're necessary but they do detract a little from the lovely images (in my opinion anyway).

"Option to install to hard drive the selected files to run, and then remove automatically from hard drive after running" - this is a great idea for the "less computer savvy" recipients of our work as well as those whose cd-drives are slow (like my old laptop).

One way to do this would be to produce and save your text in jpg format using Photoshop or similar. Then in PTE use "Project Options - Advanced", tick "Show copyright logo", click "Customise logo" and browse to find your saved jpg text. You'll need to chose a sympathetic background colour when preparing your jpg text initially.

Thanks Bill - I'd been thinking about this one but hadn't come up with any bright ideas. Your solution is a good example of "thinking outside the box".

It seems to me that you ought to be able to do this using "Advanced Project options - run application after the last slide". Just apply this to each show in turn. If you still wish to be able to access each show individually, you could achieve this by having two copies of each show with different filenames - one with the "run application" applied and one without. I hope this makes sense. Perhaps there's another way?

This is great - what's next?

I use Techsmith's Snagit - it's excellent. http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp

Thank you for drawing our attention to this - it's wonderful! The rather gritty monochrome images with their excellent use of selected colour, the transitions & the music all work beautifully. I for one will be watching this again and again. Excellent.

It's easy enough to simulate this using photoshop (or similar) to produce several copies of a slide with closer detail each time, then use normal transition effects between these in PTE.
-
If you do try with CS, my inclination would be to do all the editing first and convert to non-square at the last possible moment.
-
You don't say which version of Photoshop you use. CS (vers 8) has support for non-square pixels. I haven't explored this yet but it may be just what you need.

I think Al means 150-200 kB not MB!

my next show, Cats (still in progress)
ContaxMan replied to bobbinman's topic in Slideshows & AV Shows
I thought that this was an entertaining show with some excellent photographs, well put together. The music fitted the theme very well indeed. A few points: The initial screen (detailing control of the show) disappears before one has time to read it! I'd be inclined to make a separate short sequence for this, perhaps including a little background information about the photos, with a button to go to the main show. A few pictures could be cut, particularly if you intend to add more later. The thematic approach is interesting and informative (at least to viewers like myself who know very little about cats). Is this intended to be "educational"? If not, some digression from the strict category approach - maybe with quick transitions and/or multiple images on the screen - could help to vary the presentation style and add extra interest. It's worth experimenting with using the wave display in the latest version of PTE to fine-tune your slide changes to the sound track. The copyright message on every screen is distracting. I can't see that it is necessary at all as any printout made from images at the resolution needed for the show would not be much use anyway. -
Why not write a PS action to do the sizing for you - it's only a few minutes job & will save a lot of messing around later. Of course, if you have CS (PS 8) you can use the file browser to do all the work.
