I can only support dagrace (David) in his opinions about Breezebrowser - an excellent piece of software (especially for Canon users). Not free but very cheap, versatile and updates come free. Take a look at the site - Breezebrowser can do exactly what you state you wish to do - and much more besides ! DEN (NE UK)

Thanks Ken for your advice and thoughts. I guess I'll just have to avoid high contrast edges and also refrain from using the "sharpness filter" in PTE/avi generation - I can live with that! Denwell (NE UK)

I wonder - Is there scope on this forum to include discussions on the techniques used in AV presentations - I refer to such things as the 'third image', accepted ways of transition from horizontal slides to vertical, pace of presentation, phasing with music/audio, and respective sound levels for voiceover and music tracks etc? I have never managed to discover a publication/reference book which would give me this fundamental infoprmation, in a clear concise way. I know wer'e supposed to be discussing the workings and advancemment of PTE but I'm sure many beginners (and more advanced) would welcome the oppoertunity to receive guidance in these basic AV areas. What do you think? Denwell (NE UK)

Hi All My first attempts at producing an SVCD went well (thanks to the useful posts here!), however I had checked the 'sharpness filter' on PTE's dialogue box before making the avi. The result was a peculiar 'pixellation/edge effect ' appearing just before each transition began - ugly to say the least. My second attempt was without this filter and all was OK - but the images did seem a little softer on my TV. Any thoughts? Also a lot of my shows are produced with thin white borders around the images - on SVCD the horizontal (mainly the bottom) ones appear to shimmer & shake on TV - again ugly and distracting - can this be cured? thanks in advance for your toughts and advice. Hi Igor At the risk of becoming a bore - can I once again stress the importance of being able to select individual and groups of slides (cntl+click) and to move/ rearrange them on the timeline. Having just spent 3 days on a large show I would really appreciate such an addition. Also - could there be a way of keeping the timeline 'on top' - the constant clicking around to bring it up each time when adding slides certainly does use up valuable time. It would seem that you are about to unleash a revised beta version on us soon - I look forward to testing it out. thanks for all your hard work. Den (NE UK)

This is correct - you must decide what file sizes your images should be, and save/convert them to this size (usually 80-150k jpgs) before using them in PTE! 116 x 500k = 58MB + sound file =66MB 116 x 80k = 9.28MB + sound file = something much more manageable!! Den (NE UK)

I agree wholeheartedly with you (and others) Richard. This seems to me to be the major weakness in an otherwise superb programme. I hope Igor takes it on board for the next version. Denwell (NE UK)

A whole range of wants has been expressed which should keep Igor busy for quite a while. I would reinforce the wish already made (I think) to improve the use of the Timeline so that slides can be moved in groups and timings/effects adjusted right there - as Al's Adjustor model. Can thie Timeline be made to remain on screen during show assembly? Shuttling between this and the main screen becomes tiresome when a lot of adjustments need to be made to a show! Also I would strongly support the movement of the slide image only in 'push & slide ' transitions, leaving the background stationary (thanks for bringing this up again Mike). Whatever you choose to add to this mighty programme will be gratefully accepted by all I'm sure. Thanks Igor Den (NEast UK)

Hi Carol You have a definitive answer in the post by Al. I was blissfully unaware that the spacebar repeated the last button pressed, but you live and learn! Of course I meant to say RH side for the preview window from which to run preview from selected slide the icon ( bottom right ) looks like a slice of blue bread! So much to learn - so little time to do so. Den - well Dennis actually.

Congratulation Igor!! P2E goes from strength to strength. Den (NEast UK)

All OK here too! For what it's worth - I see the boat, frame & 'Fin' using IE 5 Den (NEast -UK)

Oleg, Any way to translate your post into English? It would seem that you could have some useful advice in it! Den (NEast - UK)

Michel Maybe you assume we are using windowed mode where the image is the only thing visible - but in full screen mode with (say) a black background around a (say) 600x400 image, then this background slides/pushes over the image below. In this case just the image must slide/push - independent of the background colour or tiled image. Can you explain further "P, Customise Slide " to achieve this? Den
-
Thanks Igor for all your continuing work on P2E. I too would want just the image to slide/push, as the background also moving across an image below is very distracting during a show. Both effects are very jerky on my 2.8gh P4 machine even with 100-150k images at long and short transition times, almost to the point of being unuseable. Nonetheless another great improvement to a wonderful application - thanks again Igor et al. Den (NEast -UK)

OOps - Always assuming you're using the most recent version of PTE (4.12 or 4.2beta) Den

Mike If you pause the show (with the spacebar) as it is playing in the synchro window, you can click anywhere on the timeline to resume playing from that point. If you press STOP then PLAY, the show starts from the very beginning again - as you have found out! Also in the LHSide preview window there's an icon on the lower right which also plays the show from the displayed slide. - Hope this helps Den (NorthEast-UK)

I have used the excellent BREEZEBROWSER software to arrange images for PTE. As well as performing a custom sort, the images can then be batch resized to suit the show size and resolution, with borders added as required - even sharpening and noise reduction possibilities - all in one action. I believe this to be the best all-round, all purpose app. for use with PTE ( no offence Al ) Breezebrowser is available from www.breezesys.com - it's British and inexpensive ! Denwell (UK- NEast)

I would agree with Mike - the ability to easily add/delete or replace slides anywhere in the timeline with respective custom settings would make life much easier when altering an existing or adjusting an ongoing creation. I have Al's Adjustor and find it very useful when globally moving slides along the line etc. However this area of adding/replacing on the fly needs to be looked at by Igor. Not many of us are able to get it right first time ! A peaceful New Year to you all Denwell (NEast - UK)

I too am unable to reach Beechbrook from UK - has been so for about a month now. Not using Tiscali though. Have tried everything but no luck! Any other thoughts or do I need to use another PC/ISP? --- Denwell

Where else could we get such service?? Thanks Granot for your speedy response to our request. Not one but two utilities for uploading to HDD! I will try them both now - but I'm sure they're going to do the job required. Thanks again Den ...........

Come on All ! There can't be many more OS's around for Boxig to incorporate into his screensaver utility - I would anticipate Win98ME and SE to use the same directory for scr. files. I wouldn't want this one to fall off the page before something comes out of it. Can we not run with what we have for the moment? Den ........

Another thought! What if there are several screensavers to choose from on CD? Can utility be adapted to install chosen one (or more)? Den ................

Thanks Granot- I knew you would rise to the challenge! Such a utility would really be useful. I look forward to testing it out. It may be useful to leave buttons for installation to different OS's to give client a choice and to use on different machines. BTW in Win 2K Pro, scr. files are stored in C:\WINNT\System32 Thank you in advance Den ..........

Is there a (free) utility anywhere that will install a screensaver into the appropriate systemfolder on a PC. We all know how to do it, but rather than include lots of instructions for would be users - a simple install exe to be included with the created screensaver would be very useful. Any thoughts? Den
