It is sad that you have dismissed 'Adobe Audition' so easily, just because you made a couple of simple mistakes. I have been using the program for a long time and find that it easily beats any of the 'free' versions out there (including Audacity). Later on, when you become more familiar with PTE and the music options you may regret you decision to plump for a free music editor. Incidently, you will dedinitely need to be able to convert/save your WAV files to mp3 at some early stage.

Bill, I agree with you absolutely! We have now seen examples from Lin and Adda, of just what version 5 is capable of, but the 'learning curve' is keeping me up at night. Congratulations to those of you who have managed to understand the workings of this new program - I fear that I will have to wait for Barry Beckham to make an audio/Visual tutorial before I will be able to produce a thing. One question for Adda though! The long 'Pans' that are shown in your demo are impressive, did you have to make up a 'Pan image' by stitching together 5 or 6 normal images? Ron

Making Transparent Background Text for Beta 5
Ronniebootwest replied to Lin Evans's topic in General Discussion
Why oh! why do people insist on using abbreviations when posting on the forum? For example, we all know that 'PTE' means Pictures to Exe but not everyone will readily appreciate that PSG refers to 'Pro Show Gold'. Beginners, who frequent this forum might appreciate the full description to help them understand. -
Description of the DirectX Diagnostic Tool
Ronniebootwest replied to Ken Cox's topic in General Discussion
Ken to the rescue yet again! Thanks for the reminder about how to find the Diagnostic tool. I have also updated to DirectX version 9.0c in order to cure a coulple of problems I had wity version 5 of PTE. Ron -
Hello again Lin, I think that I have solved the problem I had with my computer freezing. Realised that I was using an old version of DirectX, so I followed Ken's example and updated to version 9.0c and your show run's as smooth as silk now and does not crash me out at the end. Looking forward to seeing your tutorial now so that I can get to grips with this new version 5 of PTE. I bet we are now going to see a prolification of slide shows on Beechbrook now - not sure if I am looking forward to that because an overuse of Pan & Zoom can really spoil a slide show. Fingers crossed eh! Ron
-
OK Maureen, now I understand. I use a program called 'Portfolio' from Extensis to catalog my images and it works very well. After cataloging the whole thing is saved to a DVD for backup.

Computer freezes when Lin's show ends! I played the slide show first time and it worked very well, I was impressed, BUT when I played it a second time I lost the use of my mouse after it ended. The computer just 'Hung' and clicking with the mouse had no effect at all. I had to restart my computer to reset everything. Is this a problem? Ron Problem now solved! please see post below. It was all down to not having the latest DirectX version 9.0c

Well done Lin, Now let me echo what Ken Cox said "Now produce a tutorial to show us greenhorns how to do it" I am having trouble even to get an image to zoom IN (zooming OUT is easy) Ron

What do you mean Maureen? Please explain!

Hi Ken, I have 4 external drives that all have external power supply. They connect to my computer via a type 2 high speed self powered USB hub. The drives are made by Lacie (designed by Porchse) and each has 250gb of space. Incidently, I have now fitted a 600Watt main power supply (just in case) Ron
-
Ken suggested the use of non mains (AC) powered drives which take power from the USB port. These are excellent and very versatile, BUT please make sure that the POWER SUPPLY fitted in your computer will take the extra loading. I had one burn out on me very recently. Ron

Since your camera is capable of taking shots in the 'RAW' mode, why don't you bite that particular bullet and you will then have a 'digital image' that will never deteriorate. Yes, you will have larger files to deal with but in the day and age, with CD/DVD media being so cheap, that is not really a problem. RAW files are so much better that all the others, and that included jpeg, tiff, psd etc. You will have the equivalent of a film negative and will be able to return to the RAW file again and again to develop it as either a tiff or jpeg, and if you use Photoshop you can also save as psd. The best of all worlds I reckon. For a detailed tutorial on what RAW is all about, take a look at the tutorial DVD available from Barry Beckhams we site: HERE

Hi Ruth, Have you considered using the 'Template' facility within PTE. This will make a folder that includes all the items that make up your project which keeps everything together in one place. This subject has been discussed before on the Forum so do a search for 'Template' and see what you get. Ron

Slide-show created in PicturesToExe v5.00
Ronniebootwest replied to Igor's topic in General Discussion
Fantastic demo's! Some slight jerkiness on my system if I have processes running in the background, otherwise perfect. I might consider upgrading my graphics card though - is there a recommended card that is suitable at a reasonable price? Currently I am usig the: NVIDEA GEFORCE FX 5200. Ron -
Brian, But you haven't suggested an alternative to Snagit - is there one?
-
Yes I do remember all of that. I always take your advice, and although at the moment, everything is working very well even with 'Snagit' installed, maybe I should ditch it now and use something else. Can you suggest another screen shot saving program? p.s. Interesting mistype in your post for 'snagit' (just after Turn-off). Perhaps you should edit it, I gave that up years ago. Ron
-
Doesn't this make a mockery of the 'Automatic updates' when set to automaticly load. or are you suggesting that we always set to 'download and notify me before installing' ? I understand that disabling antivirus and antispyware is needed but am confused about your reference to Adobe Acrobat. Does this run in the background as well? I thought that you had to actively 'open' it before use. Ron
-
Brian, this might be confusing to some people! There is a program call 'SNAGIT' sold by the Techsmith Corporation, that is simply a sceencapture program. I think that you are referring to some other program though. Ron

Please visit the main website: Here where you will find the details about upgrades (all free) Regarding your question about DVD, well this is an old chestnut and has been dealt with many times. I fear that you may well be disappointed with the results at the moment because we have not yet perfected the process of getting the quality quite right.

In a previous post, I said I was working on a tutorial that will show how a 'One Page Menu' is made. I have finished the written procedure notes (pdf) and was surprised at just how many pages it took to complete. (pdf format is 24 pages long. In the first section I use Photoshop to create a 'Menu Template' and then, in the second section I use the PTE (object editor) to create the working menu. I am now working on the audio Visual tutorial that will take you all the way through the entire process. The finished tutorial will be very detailed and the mystery of 'One Page Menu's' will be totally exploded. Please email me if you would like further details and some sample pages from the written notes. (pdf or Word) Ron

Computer problems after downloading/registering
Ronniebootwest replied to Teri F.'s topic in General Discussion
Has this problem with the Microsoft updates been resolved yet? I am having problems with Internet Explorer myself and would like to know if there is a definite course of action that I should take now. I have read the advice posted by Ken Cox - is that what I should do??? -
Al, Please clarify what 'RJL' means - is this another utility that we can use? I am using 'AutorunMaker' from Granot and I find it very simple and easy to use. Download it Here:

There have been many threads discussing the topic of 'One page menu shows' but still people seem to have trouble making them. I use a very simple front page created with Photoshop and PTE Object editor. I intend to make a video tutorial on how to do this, so keep watching the tutorial page of my website for details. Thanks Ralph/Ken for your guidance. It seems that I have got it right now. However, one thing that I have noticed is that the 'autorun' will not work on the same computer that created it. I think that this might be because I had to change all the 'links' in PTE Object Editor to remove any reference to the disc drive. e.g. D:\myshow.exe needed to be changed to myshow.exe. Anyway, it all works fine now when I play the CD on another computer. Ron Update on Monday 24th April 2006 Thanks to 'the Hawk' (Ralph) I have now realised that I did not have the 'autorun' enabled on my computer. I have now sorted this out and my Autorun CD's are now running fine. Silly me! It is always the most obvious things that we mis eh!
-
Hawk, I did save as inf (made wrong statement in previous post) I have tried adding all the shows, autorun, and the menu show to root of CD - still did not work.
