Hi Ken, I like the way you have posted the 3 small thumbnails that then allow the viewer to click on each to expand them. How did you do this? Also, would the same principle work if you post a small photo thumbnail? Ron

PTE and getting slide shows onto TV
Ronniebootwest replied to stonemason's topic in General Discussion
For heaven's sake! please stop bickering about where this discussion should be and concentrate on the matter in hand. Go back to the original post if you have to remind yourself what it is all about. Until television catches up with computer monitors, nobody will be satisfied with the quality of DVD's produced with their computer. If I can inject my two penneth, I would agree with all of you who have expressed the view that PTE should remain as software to produce excellent .exe file for displaying on a monitor. In that regard it cannot be beaten and if we press Igor to go down another route (DVD production) I fear that our much loved program will lose some of it's charm. Ron -
Help! This is not strictly a PTE problem but you might be able to help. In Windows XP, my Control Panel refuses to expose itself for some reason. When I click on Start and then choose Control Panel it does not appear as usual but simply sits in the bar at the bottom of my screen and nothing will entice it to open up fully, even if I click Restore or Maximise. Any help would be appreciated. Ron

All the very best to you. I hope all goes well for you. Ron

Hi Roger! I am always interested in the work that you do so I would appreciate a look at the opening menu you have created. Can you email me something? Ron West

Welcome Ray! Now we all look forward to seeing some of your own work on Beechbrook. Ron

I am not sure what you mean here! If you intend using a laptop to present PTE slide shows then you will also need a digital projector. Ron
-
If you do intend to open your images in Photoshop, then you will find things much quicker if you open Photoshop at the same time that you open PTE and then 'minimize' Photoshop. If you don't do this (especially if you are using CS) you will wait ages for your image to appear after you click on Ctrl+W. Ron

I have just started experiencing a problem with my 'Outlook Express' email. When I double click the shortcut on the desktop, the program opens and immediatey drops down to the 'task bar. Nothing I do seems to bring it back to life. Has anyone had this problem - maybe you will know how I can cure it? Ron UPDATE. Silly me, I discovered that it was because I had 'turned' off the second monitor of my 'dual screen system. When I opened Outlook Express, it opened up on the second monitor (which I could not see of course) All is well now. What a fool eh!

Why don't you simply use the 'Template' option after having saved your show as a 'project' & 'exe' - then all of your music, slides etc will be all in the one folder ready for use later on. Ron
-
The norm seems to be settling down to 1024 x 768 pixels (jpeg of course) . It does depend on how you intend to show the finished .exe though. Always make your slide shows at the same resolotion of the intended monitor on which they will be shown. Ron
-
In the meantime, why don't you consider using www.dropload.com and upload your shows, then your friends/family can simply download them. Ron
-
You should consider making your slide shows at the same resolution of the monitor on which they will be shown. The norm is 1024 x 768 pixels. This will solve your problem. Ron

Hello Guru, It is OK, now I see the link is there. Thankyou.

Hi, I have supplied details of my web site but cannot see it mentioned on your link pages yet. Will it be there soon? Ron

Igor has sorted this sound problem out now and has made a temp version 4.46beta3 - see his previous post.

Hello Tom, The Tutorial CD you need is available Here: It will deal with the matter of sizing your images correctly for the best presentation within PTE. It also has a host of other information that you will find useful. When you created your wedding slide show you will have saved it as a project file and also as a slide show (.exe) file. It is this .exe file that you will burn to a CD for your friends to watch on their own computer. When making a slide show it is best that you place all components of that show in its own folder and one of the easiest ways of doing this is via the 'Template option' within PTE. You will find this on the main menu under: File>Templates>Create template from this show. Using this option will place the images, music, project into a separate folder (you can also add the .exe file if you want). Then later on, if you want to recall the full details of the slide show, all you will need to do is open the 'Template' from the template option and you will have all the details immediately to hand. It is well worth it Tom, especially if you move either the images or the music to another folder in your computer. Ron

Bingo! The latest beta works fine now - everything as it should be. Well done Igor, and thankyou for your tremendous work on this problem. What do I do now though, shall I use this latest beta until you release an updated version? Ron

I ran this test and got a message 'Can not open Wave Out' - when I clicked on OK, the first slide opened up on the screen but just 'froze' Ron Admin - I have just seen your latest post about the new beta 3 - I will download and test it now

I have downloaded and run this new 4.46 Beta now. Sorry, the music does not play. In fact the first slide just freezes on the screen. Ron West

Hi Tom, and welcome, PTE, like anything else, has its own learning curve. You will soon become familiar with the program (which is still the best) Can I suggest that a show containing 250 slides is not going to be the best, it will be very boring to most audiences. In order that you can learn the fundamentals of PTE - stick to making slide shows with about 25 images. You will definitely want to discover the importance of the 'Template' option, this will keep all your show details, i.e. images, music projects and exe all in one place/folder. Don't forget to resize your images in an editor before using them in a slide show. An excellent tutorial is available from Barry Beckham Here: Good luck with your endeavours! Ron

OK I have run these 3 tests and here are my results:- Test 1 The slide show runs OK and the music plays. Test 2 The slide show runs OK and the music plays. Test 3 The first slide appears on screen and then 'hangs' and will not transition to next slide. There is no music playing. Update: the slide does transition after all, it just took a while - still no music though.

)Here are the results of this test:- 1. pte_prev_synced Shows an exception error 'cannot open file' 2. p2e_prev1 Same as above 3. ptemusic_synced Slide show plays OK with music 4. ptemusic1 Same as above Ron West. Hi Al, You mentioned that you think your problem is different to mine - I don't think so because everything you have described so far is exactly the same problems that I am having. What is 'special version 4.45a' and where can I download it to try? Ron West
