  1. Hi there, I take your point about you wanting 'written material' A lot of people are wanting this as well and for that reason, I always include a witten 'pdf file' with all my tutorials. For example, the current one that I am working on (Making a Multi Picture Frame) has a pdf that is 26 pages long and is very detailed indeed. Ron
  2. PPI and DPI when will we learn eh? Still it all makes for interesting discussion, as proven by this current thread. Ron West
  3. I am surprised that you have not been able to find anything useful on how to use PictureToExe. My own site has a number of tutirials that might help you. However, one of the very best CD tutorials that I have seen is the one made by Barry Beckham called,"Digital Audio Visual" It takes you step by step through the whole process og making a slide show. I can highly recommend it to you so take a look on his web site. (www.beckhamdigital.co.uk) Ron West
  4. I am of the opinion that Flash files are a convenience only and in NO WAY compete with the quality produced in an EXE file. I am not at all sure that the old attitude toward playing EXE files on a computer is still valis these days. Ronnie
  5. Hello Linda, Have you got all the answers you need on this 'Watermark' question, or do you need any more help? Ronnie
  6. This thread started with a concern expressed by D67, a whole host of you responded by pointing out that he need not use the new features if he chose not to, others suggested that we just wait and see. The most meaningfull remarks came from Severn Bore, who said: I agree with him, give Igor a chance, after all he has not let us down yet! Ron
  7. It sounds more like a computer installation problem, rather than a PTE bug. Ron
  8. Hi everybody, I have tried a good few of these 'auto installers' including Setup Stream. I found some were good and some were bad. After some very good advice that I received from Cornflow, I ended up with a super installer made by the Click people. They offer a number of choices from basic to professional. I like the basic one because it is very simple to use and provides everything you need to install a PTE slide show. It is also FREE (if you accapt a simple bit of advertising) There are demo versions of the 'Professional' version too. I reckon it is easier to use than all the others! Visit their web site for more info: Click here:
  9. Hi Andy, Thanks for the information, it is appreciated. I visited your web site and was impressed by the 4 sample screensavers that you have posted there. I was particularly interested in the 'shimmering effect' on the water and also the 'rollovers' that you included as a download option. Is there a special way of creating these two techniqes? Ron
  10. I am in the process of making a CD tutorial about using Pictures To Exe and I realise that I know nothing about the 'SCR' feature. I wonder if anybody uses this, if so I would appreciate a step by step on how to create a screensaver. Ron
  11. Blxxxy good idea, I will be taking your suggestion on board. Ron
  12. Hi Ronwil, Your advice came up trumps, I searched and found my original thread and the answer was there - I just had to convert my icon to 'indexed colour' as suggested by Alrobin. I must be getting old now though because I did not remember that thread of mine at all (keep taking the tablets I guess. Ron
  13. This must be a sticky problem because although a lot of you are looking at the thread, there has been no response so far. Does anyone else use Photoshop to create their icons? I used it all the time before without any problems, but since installing CS2 nothing is working! Currently, I have installed the latest .ico plugin (as suggested by Hawk) to the CS2 plugin folder and when I create a 32x32 icon it saves OK using the 'save as' command. However, when I attempt to include this icon in PTE, I get a message that the icon is of the wrong type and needs to be in 256 colors. I use RGB and I thought that was 256 colors!!! I am wondering if I should be doing something else with the icon in photoshop before I actually save it, does anybody know what I might be doing wrong please? Ron
  14. Brian the demo is excellent and something that I will definitely want to use. Which 'auto Installer' did you use to produce this demo please? Thank you for spending the time to answer my questions, I am sure that other members will benefit from this thread. Ron
  15. It is OK, I found where to get the latest update. I downloaded it and copied it to my CS2 plugin folder but it does not seem to want to work. Before I updated, The .ico format always appeared in the 'save as' box when I chose to save a 32 x 32 16 bit image. Now it does not appear there anymore. Any suggestions please? Ron
  16. Am I missing something here? Why not simply burn the PTE.exe show to a CD and run the show from there! Brian, can you send me a sample something so I can see what you mean and what it all looks like? Ron
  17. I always used an ico plugin from www.telegraphics.com that worked well for PS7, but I now use version CS2 and my old plugin does not work anymore! Does someone know where I can get a CS2 plugin to allow me to make my icon files from photoshop images please? Ron
  18. Hello everybody, I have been reading quite a bit about a freeware program called 'SETUPSTREAM' and am now wanting to know a little bit more about it. For example, what does it do and how will it help PTE users. I might sound a little glib here and I apologise for that; but I know that a few members of this forum use this program and I am keen to hear from those members about just how they use it. Ron
  19. Ronwil, you seem to have the best times by far. Very impressive indeed. I must consider the 2mb connection. Did you have any problems with the .exe playing after download?
  20. To try and get a measure of what the download times might be, I have now uploaded a large 56mb PTE show to my web site. It runs on a monitor resolution of 1024x768. Perhaps you people with broadband will download it and let me know how long it takes. When you log on to my site, go to the 'Downloads' page and you will see it.
  21. With the increasing popularity of PTE and the wonderful slide shows it is capable of producing, there are probably hundreds of shows that never see the light of day because of thier physical size. Those of you with a dial up connection (internet) will know what I mean when I say that it takes forever to download a show to your computer. If you have a broadband connection, then things are much better, but how many can afford that luxury? Even for the lucky ones with broadband, downloading a large PTE show can be tiresome. I have considered uploading a show to my own web site, but am reluctant to do so because of space and bandwidth restriction. Can someone answer this question for me - How long will it take to download a 60mb file for someone with a 1mb Broadband connection?
  22. Good morning (or evening) to you all! I have been following the recent post on 'Dual monitors' and became very interested in trying it myself, so I invested in a graphics card that would do the job (GeForce NVIDIA 5200). It took me an age to suss out how to get this thing to work and another age to connect the second monitor until I realised that I needed a small converter to add to my card at the back of the computer. Anyway, I now have two monitors working successfully and am having great fun switching between the two. However, is this just a gimmick I wonder? I would be very interested to hear from those people who actually use dual monitors and a description of just how they use them for PTE work. Maybe I am just in need of some guidance to get me going in the right direction.
  23. Hello Diane, Thankyou for posting this information, I am quite sure that most members will appreciare it. There are those people who simply rely on a virus checker (e.g. Norton antivirus) to keep them safe - how wrong they are! In these days of easy downloads that are described as FREE, it is all to easy to get caught up in all kinds of problems. I have looked at this site you have given us and I reckon the advice is very good so if you folk have not had a look, do so now. And thanks again to Diane for thr imformation link.
  24. Pull your horns in Fred! Version 5 will be here soon and my guess is that there will be loads and loads and loads of threads dealing with the Pan & zoom feature. For my part, I just hope that PTE does not go the way of ProShow Gold and become too gimmicky. The quality we get at the moment is the best there is and I don't want to see that sacreficed or compromised in any way.
  25. 1000 + images in a single show seems to be an awful lot. My guess is that you must have joined more than a few pieces of music together in order to make it long enough. If you haven't and are using separate pieces of music, this may be part of your problem. Do you really need so many slides in your show? Most slide shows that are that long can be quite tiring for the average audience.
