They are showing on the screen during the slide show. How do you know if they are enabled??

I upgraded to 6.5 Deluxe version and having several problems with it. One problem is that when I try and pause or use the back arrow during the slideshow, it immediately kicks me out of the slideshow. Never did this in the old version. What am I doing wrong?
