JEB Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Hi,This is a record of a quick trip to Skye and Harris with my wife. The main reason was to climb a couple of mountains. The weather started we but we were rewarded with a couple of days of very sunny though cool and dry days.If you have not been to Skye or Harris then go! It's fantastic!RegardsJohnLink to MediaFirehttp://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=6b356fb...cc75ff6b9490eff Quote
mhwarner Posted June 1, 2009 Report Posted June 1, 2009 Hi John,What a beautiful area. You are so fortunate to be able to "climb some hills" in this place! Nice choice of photos and the music was a good match. I have two comments on the pictures. First, you apparently had some dust spots on the camera's sensor (or on your lens) that could use a bit of touching up (or cloning out). It is most evident in the blue sky areas. My second suggestion would be to perhaps do a bit of post processing work on a couple of the dark photos to pull out the shadow detail. The second image of the castle actually has a good bit of detail that I was able to pull out on a quick test. The only other observation I had -- totally unrelated to anything your show or photos -- was that the highway bridge to the island was seemed so out of place in all that lovely scenery. I guess that's progress, though. Thanks for sharing your photos! Quote
Almark Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 John, your photos really do make me want to visit, thank you for showing us them. Quote
JEB Posted June 3, 2009 Author Report Posted June 3, 2009 Hi, Mary and Mark,Thanks for your comments.Yes I had some dust on the lens at one point as I remember. It is a shame about the bridge but I was trying to make the best of it as it is truly the "new" "Road to the Isles" as it links Skye with the mainland. I don't know where you are from Mary but "The Road to the Isles" is a well known Scottish song title which I quite deliberately avoided using as it is just a bit too "shortbred tinny" for my liking!!Regarding pulling out shadow detail. I'm not quite sure what you mean, in particular regarding the second castle image. I am often aware that I could and have in the past done this on occasions but I wouldn't have thought that that particular image required that treatment. Perhaps this is just a matter of taste. I have to admit I do quite like contrast in an image and am often careful not to lighten shadow too much. One or two of the other images I am sure could benefit from such treatment. I hope this doesn't sound too defensive as I am keen to learn so do appreciate your comments. Something for me to ponder over!RegardsJohn Quote

d67 Posted June 3, 2009 Report Posted June 3, 2009 Hi JohnA la la ... Highlands ! The skies of Skye ! The amazing sceneries ! Impossible to travel there without beeing truly fascinated !Your photos are very good. The Skye's bridge and it's dark and terrible sky background is stunning. Some photos are a bit dark but they are at there place here as the ever changing light conditions gives such dark impressions.Thank you very much for sharingPatrick Quote
JEB Posted June 4, 2009 Author Report Posted June 4, 2009 Mary, Patrick,I thank you for drawing my attention to the "darkness" of some of the images. I have had a play in PS with a couple of them and note that I can selectively bring out more detail in some of the shadow areas, so will pay more attention to this in the future.Mary,When I responded earlier and referred to the castle, I assumed you were referring to the second image of the castle (3rd of show) rather than the second image of show (1st of castle). I agree totally with you now that I have adjusted the shadow area - quite a significant amount of detail was lurking there! Thanks again to you all. I will continue to make adjustments where I think it possible. This was put together quite quickly throughout, in that most of the shots were taken in a hurry and that was also the case, to obvious effect, in the creation of the show in PS and PTE.RegardsJohn Quote
