New version of IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com - Version 3.85

The program is free for personal use as well as for schools and charity organizations.

As usual, lots of new features, some of them here:

- Simple saturation option added (Image->Enhance Colors and Batch mode)

- New options for GIF/ICO transparent saving (save dialog options)

- New edit menu: Create custom selection

- New advanced batch option: Add overlay text

- New batch scan option: Skip existing files

- The image selection can be moved using the right mouse button

- Expanded Copy/Move dialog (more folders)

- Option to set JPG Comment/IPTC for multiple files (from Thumbnails window)

- Option to set the cut color (Properties->Misc 3)

- Option to sort files in "Create multipage TIF" dialog

- Option to set the start image index in the slideshow dialog (double click)

- Option to enable/disable dithering for color reduction

- New option: "Properties->Misc. 1->Show TGA alpha color"

- Improved JPG lossless operations: Use as JPG cleaner possible

- New options for HTML export

Just download it. The version on e.g. Tucows is 3.85. I suppose he hasn't had the time to update the homepage yet. A very busy man, Irfan!

This is strange, regarding tucows. I loaded it within minutes of Leif's posting seven hours ago today, from tucows through Irfan's site and it is 3.85 for sure. I hadn't allowed the installer to update my menu shortcuts, so the menu said it was 3.80 while the actual application said it was 3.85. I fixed the menu entry manually. By the way I used New York as the tucows file server choice.

I just seen this free file at adobe.

I thought there may be others that might like a picture viewer

from a product they already use. Or for family members to use.

Photoshop Album 2.0 Starter Edition

I have not used it but I know Adobe makes great photo editing programs.

It says you can perform basic fixes such as cropping, rotating, and removing red eye.

Image Editing

I thought this program would be good for family and friends that do not want to spend the

money on Photoshop. PhotoPlus 5.5

It seems to work well I have been playing with it for a few days.

Part of review:

PhotoPlus has all the staples you've come to expect from an image editor.

- It supports layers just like Photoshop.

- It has a nice selection of tools, including smudge, clone, and a variety of selection shapes. You're not limited to the rectangle and lasso tools.

- If you screw up as often as I do, you'll appreciate the unlimited "undo" feature.

All this for free!?

PhotoPlus includes some powerful features that caught our attention.

- The text feature is great for adding customized titles. The tool makes it easy to change wording and text style.

- The program comes with a built-in "export optimizer." It lets you try out and preview your image at various quality settings and formats before you save it.

Whether you need to create an image from scratch, swap heads with your favorite celeb, or restore old family photos, this program has all the features you need.

Thanks cc for your impressions. I always like it when I can start with the experience of a fellow PTE user. (As opposed to just "cold call" offerings.)

Based on your review, I did just DL the program to take a look. I also, ended up taking the bait and phoning on their further offer. Having given the phone man my last name, he immediately had my name and address from his database. He was not pushy, very good in fact. But what impressed me is the company, had my name from a very early product I had bought from them - in 1994! Though the company, Serif, is rather unknown here in US, they have indeed been around awhile. Now to see how useful the program might be.
