Ronniebootwest Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 I have made a HD Video file using the 'Create' button in PTE. It plays perfectly using the 'Classic Cinema' player recommended by Igor.My question is this, can this file (MP4) be burned to a DVD using any known software?Ron West Quote
nobeefstu Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 Hi Ron,I dont know what info Ken has just sent you ... but here is a few of my comments. Please remember the .mp4 file produced is a HD Video file for PC playback. MP4 video is not in the correct movie format to be burned and played on a normal home TV-DVD player. TV-DVD players nowadays accept many file formats like MP3, JPG, and possiblly MP4-Audio Only (MPEG-4 files with audio and video generally use the standard .mp4 extension. Audio-only MPEG-4 files generally have a .m4a extension.) Im sure the TV-DVD player market is most likely looking into MP4 Video playback if it hasnt already started on the newest models. So if your intention is to burn your HD Video file for PC playback only ... you can burn it using the DATA Disc format. Other PC users of your disc must also have a compatable player with MP4 video decoding as your Classic Cinema Player or the VLC Player.I recall one forum user here burned the portable version VLC Player to the DVD disc with the MP4 files if a recipient didnt have the proper player to decode for PC playback and commented it worked great. I do not know if Classic Cinema Player has a portable version available.Info :MPEG-4 Part 14 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG-4_Part_14VLC media player - Wikipedia, the free encyclopediahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VLC_media_player Quote
Ken Cox Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 LIN GOT ME INTO USINGhttp://www.kantaris.org/Kantaris is a new media player based on code from Videolan client (VLC) and Bass audio library. Kantaris has a graphical user interface similar to that of Windows Media Player. Version 0.5.8 works with Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7. but IMHO gui is far superior and seems to have more smarts ken Quote
davegee Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 Doesn't it still end up as PAL (768x576 - the output resolution of the DVD Player) on your TV regardless of TV resolution?DaveG Quote

A few days ago, I downloaded the player (free) and it played the MP4 on my PC that I had created in PTE. It also has the capability to burn the MP4 to a DVD. I tried it and it worked. I don't think there is any timelimit on this version, as least I don't see any. (One note about burning the MP4 to a DVD in Divx. It took me a while but I finally figured out that you have to 'import' the MP4 file into its Library in order for the Burn function to be active and recognize that you have an MP4 to burn). It won't play on a regular DVD player. But I wonder if the Blu-ray players will play this DVD with PTE's MP4? I don't have a Blu-ray player so I am wondering if anyone had tried this out. Any comments?Divx download site: http://www.divx.com/en/downloads Gary Quote
Lin Evans Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 Hi Gary,You can burn MP4's to either BluRay or HD format on "standard" DVD media using several products, but to play them back you need either a BluRay or HD player connected to an HD TV or computer with proper resolution. The software I'm most familiar with which can do this is Pinnacle Studio Ultimate Version 12. Link below:http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/P.../Studio+Family/I would suggest calling Pinnacle for more details....Best regards,Lin Quote

Ken Cox Posted July 25, 2009 Report Posted July 25, 2009 a couple years ago in the early days of p/z i made a show of my daughter's house expansion using picts she put up on a web page and picts i took -- i made an avi the old way, converted to a divx with one of my programs -- i cant remember which proggie -- oldtimers disease -- i did this more to satisfy Hawk because he was experimenting with divx and i had to have something to tell him.I never appreciated the show until i got my ws hd tv cw with the samsung 1080p UP player connected to the tv via the hdmi cable -- prior to this i had been quite satisfied playing it via the svhs out feed of my ati 9600 card to the standard 4:3 crt tvthe colour/pictures / etc are right on at 10-12 ft viewing -- when 1ft away there is the expected pixelationthe info on the screen when playing the divx file with the dvd player says 1080P and screen is full in "JUST" aspect settinghttp://www.panasonic.ca/english/audiovideo/lcd/tc37lz85.aspsee specs with attachedken Quote
Ronniebootwest Posted July 25, 2009 Author Report Posted July 25, 2009 Thanks to all of you who have commented so far. I am going to check out the DIVX player and investigate the DVD burner function.Meantime, I have discovered that good old Nero will do the job quite well. I used the 'NERO VISION' option to convert and burn to a standard DVD and then played it back in 'NERO SHOWTIME' However, Classic Cinema was much better quality. The quality of the DVD Picture was very good, although a little on the dark and contrasty side. I also noticed some 'jerkiness' of and panning, e.g. scrolling text titles. Ron Quote
