[RESOLVED] trojan

keyboard

Recommended Posts

Just downloaded latest Beta 23 and upon scanning the zip with AVG it shows the following.

"C:\Documents and Settings\JOHN\Desktop\picturestoexe-beta.zip";"Trojan horse PSW.Banker5.ZOY";"Infected"

"C:\Documents and Settings\JOHN\Desktop\picturestoexe-beta.zip:\picturestoexe-setup.exe";"Trojan horse PSW.Banker5.ZOY";"Infected"

I am using the paid for version of AVG with firewall and Identity protection.I have not extracted the package yet, will wait until I get an answer from Igor as to wether it is another AVG false alarm or the real thing.

John.

Hi John,

It's a false positive by AVG - this same error has been happening with latest AVG detection since PTE beta version 2 of 5.7. That is AVG's latest upload detects this "trojan" with even 5.7 beta 2. I had to disable my resident AVG shield to install the latest beta 23. AVG needs to be notified so they can fix their problem.

Best regards,

Lin

Hi Tom,

The latest update of AVG detects this false positive as far back as PTE 5.7 beta version 2 - LOL. It's yet another sloppy AVG false positive. They err on the side of caution to the degree that they produce numerous false positives on other software as well. I had to disable my AVG resident scanner to install beta 23, but a scan detects the same false positive on all betas since beta 2. Igor has been notified.

Best regards,

Lin

I suspect part of the cause of this problem is the use by Igor of the word "setup" as part of the file name. I get the impression that some AV software products are paranoid about anything that seems to hint at software install in a tightly controlled system.

Peter

I base my opinion on the following happening to me...

I show my AV sequences to several local organisations. In order to check out my laptop/projector on the night without revealing any of the sequences, I had created a short sequence that I used to check out the setup of the projector, sound system and laptop. I called this sequence "AVSetup.exe". Everytime I tried to execute it Norton Anti-Virus complained. I renamed the file to "AVFocusCheck.exe" and Norton stopped complaining.

The only change was the file name. The contents were exactly the same. QED as far as I was concerned.!

regards,

Peter

Dear Sir/Madam,

thank you for your e-mail.

Unfortunately, the previous virus database might have detected the

mentioned virus on some legitimate applications. We can confirm that

it was a false alarm. We have immediately released a new virus update

that removes the false positive detection on this file. Please update

your AVG and check your files again.

If you need to restore deleted files from AVG Virus Vault you can do

it this way:

- Open AVG user interface.

- Choose "Virus Vault" option from the "History" menu.

- Locate the file that was incorrectly removed and select it (one

click).

- Click on the "Restore" button.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards,

Tomas Kuba
