Lin Evans Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Hi John,It's a false positive by AVG - this same error has been happening with latest AVG detection since PTE beta version 2 of 5.7. That is AVG's latest upload detects this "trojan" with even 5.7 beta 2. I had to disable my resident AVG shield to install the latest beta 23. AVG needs to be notified so they can fix their problem.Best regards,Lin Quote
Lin Evans Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 Hi Tom,The latest update of AVG detects this false positive as far back as PTE 5.7 beta version 2 - LOL. It's yet another sloppy AVG false positive. They err on the side of caution to the degree that they produce numerous false positives on other software as well. I had to disable my AVG resident scanner to install beta 23, but a scan detects the same false positive on all betas since beta 2. Igor has been notified.Best regards,Lin Quote
keyboard Posted October 19, 2009 Author Report Posted October 19, 2009 Thanks LinI think I will wait for the next beta, all the previous beta's have installed without warnings.John. Quote
Igor Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 We'll write to AVG about this false positive.I just tested Beta 23 on VirusTotal.com with 40 antiviruses and no viruses are detected. Quote
fh1805 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I suspect part of the cause of this problem is the use by Igor of the word "setup" as part of the file name. I get the impression that some AV software products are paranoid about anything that seems to hint at software install in a tightly controlled system.regards,Peter Quote
fh1805 Posted October 19, 2009 Report Posted October 19, 2009 I base my opinion on the following happening to me...I show my AV sequences to several local organisations. In order to check out my laptop/projector on the night without revealing any of the sequences, I had created a short sequence that I used to check out the setup of the projector, sound system and laptop. I called this sequence "AVSetup.exe". Everytime I tried to execute it Norton Anti-Virus complained. I renamed the file to "AVFocusCheck.exe" and Norton stopped complaining. The only change was the file name. The contents were exactly the same. QED as far as I was concerned.!regards,Peter Quote
