colin hill Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Hi all,I took these pictures on a visit to Canterbury Cathedral in 2008. It truly is magnificent and one of the best cathedrals in the world.I compiled this some time ago and as I consider it to not be one of my best, have been reluctant to show. I battled to try and obtain suitable royalty free music for the show and settled for 2 pieces which I was not completely happy with.Anyway, here it is and comments would be welcome.Colin http://www.mediafire.com/?hj4jzzyrmmm Quote
trailertrash Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Nice one colin. One thing I would have liked tho, maybe a small caption to tell me who the 'Royalty' were in the tombs in the small chapel. That aside...excellent. A stately and superb edifice indeed.Andrew Quote
colin hill Posted February 11, 2010 Author Report Posted February 11, 2010 Hi Andrew,Thank you for the comment. We saw so many tombs of royalty on our visit and I must admit, I just took photos' without jotting down names. I do remember the Black Prince and Thomas Becket, but as far as those shown in my presentation, I could not say.It truly is a magnificent cathedral, steeped in history and the few hours we spent there, I found very fascinating.Your comments are noted though and thank you for taking the effort.Regards,Colin Quote
mhwarner Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 Hi Colin,Not sure how the photos in the show were sized, but on my 24" monitor, some were a bit pixelated. You might think about limiting the size of the show to a specific size rather than letting it expand to fill all size monitors. The other thing I noticed is that many of the photos could have benefited from a bit of parallel correction for the "inward leaning" caused by tilting the camera in an attempt to get it all in. The music was well chosen and I did like the way you transitioned to/from the vertical/portrait orientation shots. Thanks for sharing this. Quote
Guest Yachtsman1 Posted February 11, 2010 Report Posted February 11, 2010 After the kerfuffle recently, it's nice to see more people are posting their shows. I went to Canterbury a few years ago but didn't get chance to go in the Cathedral. After seeing your show, I will try harder next time. IMHO The two pieces of music chosen are not royalty free, they may not be recognised recordings but are not royalty free. With that in mind, I would have chosen a better quality versions of the first piece and something totally different and more in keeping than the second piece, I have the first one on a couple of my shows, Ripon Cathedral & Hairy Bikers. I don't know what resolution you used but the pictures were fuzzy & I agree with the converging verticals comment from another poster, however saying that manipulating verticals and getting the correct size for PTE is difficult, I don't usually try, I do however ensure the centre of the shot is vertical which makes the tapering sides more natural. I liked the last shot of the credits with the picture to the left. Hope this helps and is constructive. Something to strive after for this type of show, take a look at Barry Beckham's Enigma show, you can download it from his site.Regards Yachtsman1 Quote

You commented on the sizing of pictures for my 2009 news events show which was produced after this one, so in future, that is what I will concentrate on. Can you advise me what I must tick/untick to limit the size of the show?Regards,Colin Quote

I do battle to try and obtain royalty free music for my shows. These two pieces I obtained from "a royalty free" website Incompetech.com. They are pieces of music by Kevin Mcleod, who I acknowledged. I will have a look at Barry Beckham's Enigma show. I will now go and download your Hairy Bikers show. We also watch it here in our country, so interested in the making of it.Regards,Colin Quote

This will prevent your pictures being stretched on larger monitors.Hope this helps.Maureen Quote
