Jim Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Granot...got it, thanks. It works fine but could you possibly give a little more detail on changing the file text such as altering the position of the ani gif on the users page, the default display time etc? Maybe a short Help file? This would be for users who aren't too familiar with X & Ys, timing-as-text and what have you. Such as me! Thanks for all your efforts, this ani gif app will be a very nice addition to PTE shows.Jim Quote
boxig Posted October 30, 2003 Author Report Posted October 30, 2003 JimThere is help on "gif.txt" file.line 4: Write time to auto-close animation after starting.X and Y are the top-left corner of the animation on screen.Example (from the file):Animation position on users screen:15050Zoom out animation ?yes150 = the gif will be 150 pixels from the left side of screen50= the gif will be 50 pixels from the top side of screenyes = animation will disappear in a zoom out effect. This is only first version and I will add some improvements accordingto members feedback. One is to let utility check user's screen size andshow the animation gif in the same spot on all screens relative to size.Any specipic question ask me.Granot Quote
bjc Posted October 30, 2003 Report Posted October 30, 2003 Granot (Boxing)Thank you for all your work creating an alternative to having 'anigif' capabilities built-in to PTE.Not being a 'programmer' myself I fail to understand the difficulties, or WHY, Igor has not yet been able to include anigif's as a PTE option ~ no doubt it is NOT as easy to accomplish as I thought it would be.Unfortunately an 'add-on' alternative is not quite the same thing ~ that is not to say that your efforts go unappreciated,, I'm sure many people will use 'GifExe' ~ I however will continue to wait patiently for Igor to include the real thing into PTE itself,, surely he WILL do it one of these days !? (it can't be that difficult,,, can it ??)Thank you again ~ I'm amazed at your talents !! bjc Quote
nobeefstu Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 bjc ,or WHY, Igor has not yet been able to include anigif's as a PTE option ~ no doubt it is NOT as easy to accomplish as I thought it would be.I suspect the issue surrounds more UNISYS as the patent holder of the GIF and control of its use ... and not Igors.Heres a brief cut ...and maybe not such a well known fact to many users here :The GIF Controversy: A Software Developer's PerspectiveLast revision June 11, 2003 ... Between 1987 and 1994, GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) peacefully became the most popular file format for archiving and exchanging computer images. At the end of December 1994, CompuServe Inc. and Unisys Corporation announced to the public that developers would have to pay a license fee in order to continue to use technology patented by Unisys in certain categories of software supporting the GIF format. These first statements caused immediate reactions and some confusion. As a longer term consequence, it appears likely that GIF will be replaced and extended by new file formats, but not so before the expiration of the patents which caused so much debate (at midnight US Eastern Standard Time on June 19, 2003 for the US patent, and midnight local time on June 18 and 19, 2004 for the European and Japanese counterparts, respectively).... Merlin Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Hello, It could be that while GIF '87 patents have run out, the GIF '89 patents are still in forceOr the daunting task of checking the 130+ other GIF patents <sigh>Merlin Quote
Merlin Posted October 31, 2003 Report Posted October 31, 2003 Hello Granot,I just downloaded and tried out the app.AWESOME! (shouting intended due to excitement)You are awesome! >This is only first version and I will add some improvements according>to members feedback. One is to let utility check user's screen size and>show the animation gif in the same spot on all screens relative to size.>Any specipic question ask me.OK 1- Yes, it would be nice to position the ani-gif according to screen size.2- what should I do to run another ani-gif during a presentation?Have multiple gifexe programs in different folders with ani files in with them?3- do you have these programs pre-written?or do you do it so quickly because you are so genius?3 is a rhetorical question I like to think you are a genius, so don't pop my bubble with an answer, OK ;-)Merlin Quote
boxig Posted October 31, 2003 Author Report Posted October 31, 2003 MerlinThank you for your kind words what should I do to run another ani-gif during a presentation?Have multiple gifexe programs in different folders with ani files in with them?Sound logical and I think this should work if links are done as they should.do you have these programs pre-written?Yes.and No.I am using my own ideas from previous utilities I made, so once I knowhow to do it, the doing is very quick. Feedback and suggestions are veryhelpful since sometimes I get a great idea from you (like hiding the task barwhich was Marcos request) which I didn't think of before. So I'm alwayswaiting for members to check and play with my utilities, find bugs (as manydid find) and give me new ideas as to how to improve existing utilities orfor new utilities.ThanksGranot Quote
