RudiRe Posted December 28, 2002 Report Posted December 28, 2002 I'm working on a new PTE presentation at the moment, which takes about two and a half minutes to load from the finished exe file, which lays on my desktop now.I have marked the field "show loading screen if presentation starts more than 2 sec" in the project options dialog field, yet the expected loading screen doesn't show up, when I start the presentation, neither in preview mode nor when started from the exe. What did I do wrong?Any advice or ideas, how I can let the loading screen appear?Thank you very much in advance Quote
boxig Posted December 28, 2002 Report Posted December 28, 2002 Hi Rudi,Try to cut out the first slide and try again. Sometimes the problem is in a bad first slide. Quote
RudiRe Posted December 28, 2002 Author Report Posted December 28, 2002 Thanks boxig, I tried that now, but the loading screen still won't show up.1.) I deleted the first slide.2.) I took another completely different slide.3.) I took an empty slide........Whatever I tried, the loading screen won't show up.Any idea? Quote
boxig Posted December 28, 2002 Report Posted December 28, 2002 Rudi,Are other shows make same problem or only one ?If only one, so probably you did someting wrong.Try to "uncheck " the loading screen and see how the show works.Try to save as template and make exe from the new PTE file.and last, take out the music if there is and try.if all this don't work, you'll have to wait for an expert. which I am not.good Luck Quote
Limey Posted December 28, 2002 Report Posted December 28, 2002 RudiMy understanding of the 'loading screen' message is that it is only triggered by the loading time of the music file. What is the size of your music file and how big are your picture files? Is your show 'synchronized to the music'?Terry Quote
Guest guru Posted December 29, 2002 Report Posted December 29, 2002 Terry is right, "Loading" screen appears ONLY if the sound file is very large, and requires more than 2 sec to be loaded in disk cache ...for the moment (I think Igor is working on this too). Quote
RudiRe Posted December 29, 2002 Author Report Posted December 29, 2002 Here the detailed data:I'm using PTE 3.80The presentation, I'm currently working on, so far contains1.) 56 midi files, which have together a size of 998 KB (these midi files are not used as background music, but linked with individual slides)2.) 15 noises in mp3 format, which total 479 KB (also linked to individual slides)3.) about 4 MB in gif pictures, most of them used as objects4.) PTE objectsI did not use any sync mode nor any transition effects.I've tried everything, to make the loading screen work.No success so far. The presentation still takes two and a laf minutes to load, and that is a pain, especially if you're not being informed about that as a naive user. He might think, the presentation doesn't work, but it does work..........without loading screen after two and a half minutes. Please get your tiny grey cells into gear.Mine already are evaporated about this problem. Guest guru Posted December 29, 2002 Report Posted December 29, 2002 Rudi, your show is paradoxally not so large (likely less than 10 MB) but together very "heavy" to load, with its 56 midi files and many objects.Music files are very few and small - 15 mp3 "noises".This confirms what I said in my last post: you have very few REAL sound (mp3). Don't forget midi files are not actually sound files but text files, with simple "instructions for use" for the sound card.Let's hope Igor improves soon the feature of this "Loading" screen as he said himself, allowing users to activate it freely when they think it's necessary. alrobin Posted December 29, 2002 Report Posted December 29, 2002 Rudi,You could also do as I have done on large shows and add a text object to a one-slide Introduction slide show, informing the viewer that the main show takes a long time to load, and suggesting that he or she go for a coffee. After reading the note, the viewer would then click on a button to load the longer show and be prepared for the long wait. Ciao,Al Quote
Guest guru Posted December 29, 2002 Report Posted December 29, 2002 It's a very good idea, Al! (...for the moment! ) Quote
RudiRe Posted December 30, 2002 Author Report Posted December 30, 2002 Yes, that's what I thought I have to do,but not adding just another slide to a pre-show,but simply putting a "READ ME FIRST" txt file into the zip folder, before uploading it to beechbrook.I think, improving the loading screen featureis really one of the tasks, Igor should havea closer look on before releasing the nextversion, since it's such an important feature.
