Is there a simple way to configure a text template to add slide numbers to a sequence of images within the entire slide list ?

I have a few intro slides - then I wish to start adding slide numbers to many more, then miss several others and then continue on to the end.

I know I can do this by manually adding a text comment to each appropriate slide but I don't see a way of automating this process.

Am I correct?

Perhaps somebody else will jump in with a better solution, but in the meantime ...

It's not really automatic, but it seems to me it might be easier than adding a comment to each slide. Go into objects and animations and add a text object to a slide. For the newly added text object, click on "Insert text template" and <%SlideIndex%> will show up in the text window. Set the text parameters (color, size, font, etc.) as you wish. Then select it down in the objects window and copy (Ctrl-C) to the clipboard. Now in the upper corner of the O&A window, click the right arrow key to advance to the next slide. Now paste the text object by hitting Ctrl-V. Press the right arrow again to advance to the next slide. Not automatic, but with a few keystrokes you could work through quite a number of slides.

Thanks Mary

I'd already thought about this option, but it still adds the slide number including the first (intro) slides - I cannot begin with a selection of 1 through to say 100 following these intro slides. I can easily add a template in Project Options to automatically do what you suggest.

Maybe Igor might see the merits of adding this function (?)

Den,

What happens if you set the Slide Number on every slide using Project Options|Comments and then delete the "offending object" via O&A on those slides where you do not want it?

Peter

Den/Peter,

Deleting the offending text object still wont provide Denwell with his segmented slide setup I suspect he is looking for. He wants to skip the intro slides but not the following normal slide numbering.(Skip 5 intro slides and then start with Slide 1 count to wherever number, then skip next intro slides and start with next number from the earlier segment for the later slides .)

*I can only suggest you either name/rename your groups of segmented images to the actual slide numbering order you desire (Slide 1.jpg etc and so on.) ... then use the FileName in the text template and then delete the named text objects that appear in your intro slides segment and any additional intro segments that lead to other group(s) of your numbered segemeted slide group. Still alot of extra work using this method which I personally would not do.

or

*The simpilest method/way to achieve your correct numbered slide group(s) ... is to build all intro segment(s) files separately and the numbered type slides in its own single segment, then link all the intro segments and the numbered slide segment via the Run SlideShow feature. Not so tricky if you think things out. You can also most likely get away with just 2 project file builds ... one which contains all the intro segment groups and the other containing all the numbered slides. Basically you will jump back and forth to the 2 files. Make sure you use the Slide Number text template for just the numbered type slides segment.

As Stu points out, your suggestion still leaves the first numbered slide as (say 5).

Stu

I think your first suggestion is nearer to what I want to do, but I didn't really want to rename the slides (although a copy set could be used).

Your second suggestion is also feasible. Merits in both I think.

Selective application of text templates could be a useful addition to PTE though.

Thanks for your suggestions.
