davegee Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Hi Guys,Advice please?I downloaded a file sent to me by a friend via MEDIAFIRE (OH how I hate that site!!!!!!!!).AVG immediately threw up an alert - see below.Since it only happens with the one EXE file do I assume that it is a genuine alert? - I don't get this sort of problem so I'm seeking advice before doing anything. Thanks,DG Quote
HenryJ Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Hi AllI've had the same come up today with the the same Trojan Horse. I've been on AVG site knowledge base of viruses and nothing was found. I am asking the same question. SHpould I move it to AVG vault or Ingnore it and just carry on as normal. If I put it in the vault, will it prevent the program from working? The file name it is referring to is:- Program Files\WnSoft PicturesToExe\7.0\Main\PCExecutable.exe Quote
Igor Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Thanks, I just sent a report to AVG company about this false positive. Please also send your reports to AVG company to speed solution of this problem. Quote
davegee Posted October 7, 2011 Author Report Posted October 7, 2011 Igor,I don't really understand how one file can show this Trojan Horse and others (in the same folder) don't?How can I check this particular file?DG Quote
Igor Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Only v7.0 executables. We need to wait when AVG fixes this false positive. I think it will take 1-2 days. Quote
RobertAlbright Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 I also experienced this problem. The get around was to Uninstall AVG and then Reinstall from their internet site. This allows PTE .exe files to be opened - but not the ones already false positive identified as a Trojan Horse. Quote
nobeefstu Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 DG,How can I check this particular file? Here's a online service that checks your individual file and reports whatever activity is found on most popular antivirus engines. There is a 20MB file limit ... and the antivirus definition files they test with can be a few days old (look at their tested definition date listed). However its still quite convenient and nice to see what results are found with other antivirus programs as a whole.VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scannerhttp://www.virustotal.com/about.html Quote
cagney123 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I've got the same problem. Now I can't create any new shows. I can work fine but when I go to create I get the same Trojan Horse bit from AVG. It also flagsshows I created days ago. I just updated my virus definitions from AVG today, so it has to be very recent info that they've added. It worked fine a day ago.AVG won't let me send the file for some reason..it just say's "transfer failed". I'll try again tomorrow. Glad to see I'm not alone and Igor is aware of theproblem, though it has nothing to do with his fine program.Jeff Lunt Quote
davegee Posted October 8, 2011 Author Report Posted October 8, 2011 I made a C drive backup image before updating to AVG 2012 so I could go back to that but if it only takes a day or two as Igor suggests, I can wait.My desktop machine is not affected.DG Quote
fh1805 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I'm in this same boat, too! I'm getting round it by using the Temporary Disable function of AVG. This allows the Publish to proceed to completion. However, after re-enabling AVG, it still reports the detected threat when I then try and run the executable.regards,Peter Quote
davegee Posted October 8, 2011 Author Report Posted October 8, 2011 Peter,Igor suggests that we report it to speed things up.Never done that.HOW?DG Quote
fh1805 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Dave,The text below is taken from AVG's "Virus FAQ" web-page. I haven't tried it yet - and will not get time to until late this evening."In the case where AVG Free detects a file on your PC as infected, moves it to the AVG Virus Vault, and you are sure that this file is correct and clean, it is possible that the detected file is a false alarm. If so, we shall prepare the correction as soon as possible. Unfortunately, false alarms do appear from time to time in every Anti-Virus software. To solve the problem, please send us this file for analysis directly from the AVG Free program this way: Open AVG Free User Interface. Choose the "Virus Vault" option from the "History" menu. Right-click the false positive file and select the "Send to analysis" option from context menu. Fill in your e-mail address Confirm the dialogThis file will be sent to our virus specialists for analysis and we will inform you about the result."regards,Peter Quote
David Porter Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Just tried doing as Peter suggests but each time (twice so far) it gets a quarter of the way through sending it and crashes with " An unspecified error has occured in AVG". Any other thoughts ? I will try re-booting in case that works. No re-booting does not help - so how do we contact them. Come on Igor. Quote
fh1805 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Now here's an interesting fact. The "virus" that AVG is detecting = Trojan horse FakeAV.SYJ" does not have an entry in the Virus Encyclopedia on the AVG website. So they are "detecting" a virus that they can give a name to but for which they have no details on their own information database. Curiouser and curiouser!regards,Peter Quote
davegee Posted October 8, 2011 Author Report Posted October 8, 2011 Peter,I tried that lat evening and agree. That's possibly the nature of a false positive?DG Quote
RobertAlbright Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 A friend in Wales has rung me after seeing my Post of 09.01 pm yesterday. She is going to try this method and advise me of the result later this afternoon. Quote
David Porter Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Problem solved on my laptop - AVG out, M/soft Security Essentials in. Will give a day or so then my desktop(main) computer will do the same. Quote
cead Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I use Microsoft Security Essentials for a long time, to my complete satisfaction ! Quote
cagney123 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 I also dumped AVG for the moment, but the problem goes beyond your own personal machine. Millions of folks use AVG and they will not be able to open any shows created by the new 7.0 PTE.My wife just tried to download and open a new show and couldn't due to the virus report as she uses AVG. Hopefully AVG will fix this situation soon.Jeff Quote
MUR Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 Now Bitdefender is erasing my pte exe files (v 7.0), the problem is (acording to it) a trojan horse Quote
HaroldB Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 Just for the record, I am having this AVG problem, too.And it says that sending them my "sample file" (ie, my EXE) failed.H Quote
RobertAlbright Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 Further to my earlier post, here is the update from my friend:' I decided to replace AVG with microsoft security essentialsand everything seems to be working OK - including exe files made on 7.Looking on the Forum there were other people using the same, who said they were happy with it.' Quote
David Porter Posted October 10, 2011 Report Posted October 10, 2011 A bit more info:- When I try to create a .exe file in Publish as well as AVG picking up on the file with suggestion to put it in Virus fault it also crashes the PTE program. When I send the file for analysis (rt click file in Virus Vault) the max size that will go is only 5mb.Suggestion. Make small programs quickly created in PTE and send them for analysis to AVG. Hopefully if they get enough, they will sort it out quickly. Quote
davegee Posted October 10, 2011 Author Report Posted October 10, 2011 Mick,Can you make a single image EXE and send that?DG Quote
