David Porter Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hi Lin,Strange thing happening with some of your downloads, including this one but not all. When I download and click on "open" rather than "Save" it does not work - Says "done" on bottom bar but nothing happens. If I click "save" then it downloads and I can then click "open" and it works fine plus I can open from the hard drive. I don't get this problem with anyone else. Don't blind me with science but thought you might like to know. Quote
Lin Evans Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hi Mick,I wish I had an answer, but they are just zipped exe or native Mac zips uploaded to my website and a link provided. I really have no idea why they would work differently......Best regards,Lin Quote
Guest Yachtsman1 Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hi LinThe globe in the watch rotation was jerky & the sound volume low on my gear, (You Tube version, second run through so not a buffering problem.)Regards EricYachtsman1 Quote
Lin Evans Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hi Eric,It's difficult to guess why a Youtube video might work well for some and not for others. It's pretty smooth for me and for several others who have tried it. It could be a resource issue (too much going on in your system simultaneously) or it could be a web dowload speed issue or even your own player might be problematic. I'm assuming it's playing for you as a Flash rather than as an MP4. On most systems that's how it would be seen.I see a slight "stutter" in the rotation at about 20 seconds (by the watch) then pretty smooth the rest of the way.Best regards, Quote
Lin Evans Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hi Tom,Thanks, I'll check out the blue marble animations...Best regards,Lin Quote
Guest Yachtsman1 Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Hi Lin & TomLin the jerkiness started when you said plus just before the sheep/goat/calf appeared. Tom I've enclosed two screen shots of the info got by right clicking. Don't know what they mean, Off to bed now.Regards EricYachtsman1. Quote
Lin Evans Posted March 23, 2012 Author Report Posted March 23, 2012 Hi Eric,Wow! It's all the dropped frames which are causing the problem. I'm not certain whether it's your ISP or Youtube's server which is causing the problem. I've had intermittent issues with Youtube in the last hour with running the show once and having a total of (2) dropped frames, to running it a few minutes later and seeing (99) dropped frames. When you have as many as you are seeing, the results would indeed be terrible. Rest assured it's not a problem on your end, but something between your ISP and Youtube's servers.Best regards,LinHi Lin & TomLin the jerkiness started when you said plus just before the sheep/goat/calf appeared. Guest Yachtsman1 Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Hi GuysJust finished breakfast. The way I see it is from the point of promotion of PTE to the masses, I use the biggest ISP in the UK & a browser of similar proportions. If I am seeing problems, there is a good chance that there are a lot of others out there seeing the same problems, which is not good for PTE? I know there are various tequie fixes which may improve the appearance of the piece, but IMO the average Youtube user would not go to the trouble of trying, but just dismiss it out of hand after the first watching. As Lin knows I have been doing a lot of experimenting with animation, for me anyway and not intending to teach "grandma to suck eggs", Lin have you tried slowing down the globe rotation? In my last effort "Out of Season", I had a sailboat moving across a lake, even after setting PTE for animation & whacking up the sharpness setting to maximum, it still wasn't perfect, so I tried slowing down the sailboat, it worked perfectly.
