Guest Yachtsman1 Posted April 10, 2012 Report Posted April 10, 2012 I'm saving for a new lens and knowing what a expensive disappointment it can be if you choose the wrong one. An alternative would be to try before you buy. The cost for a Nikon 70-200 2.8 lens for a 7 day hire is around £100 including collection & delivery, which for a £1500+ lens doesn't sound bad, has anyone tried this company? http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/index.aspYachtsman1. Its a great way to get to use lenses you'd never have had otherwise. The only downside is it can get expensive if you keep renting the same lenses. Quote
paulziets Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 Eric,I would recommend you give them a go. I used them three years ago for the very purpose when I hired a 100-400mm lens for an airshow. They were very reliable, the lens arrived on time and it was in great condition.I ended up buying one for myself as I was so pleased with the results. It cost me £87.00 to hire the lens for the weekend but was well worth it.Regards,Paul Quote
Guest Yachtsman1 Posted April 11, 2012 Report Posted April 11, 2012 The lens is more expensive than most cameras. I guess it's the f/2.8 that makes it so expensive? I can understand why it would be a good idea to rent the lens for a week.It certainly has good reviews.http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-70-200mm-Nikkor-Digital-Cameras/dp/B002JCSV8U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1334112708&sr=8-5Cheaper alternatives.http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-70-300mm-4-5-5-6G-Digital-Cameras/dp/B000HJPK2C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334112708&sr=8-1http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-55-300mm-4-5-5-6G-Nikkor-Digital/dp/B003ZSHNCC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1334112708&sr=8-2If you get the lens I would like to see a slideshow.TomHi TomI have about 7 or 8 similar lenses in my Amazon UK wish list, including Nikon Tamron & other makes. I would like VR, as hand holding a lump like that is not condusive to good photography at long zooms as we know. My last biggish zoom was the Nikon 18-200 which I had two, on different cameras, the Mk1 & Mk2, the Mk 2 had the lock switch to prevent lens creep, but the pictures from it didn't match the Mk 1, maybe it was the camera? Spending that much money would be my biggest ever photographic investment so I want to make sure I buy the right one. I didn't find out until last night that there were hire companies in the UK.Regards EricYachtsman1. Quote

I think when we are talking big money to buy, trying one oneself is good sense.Regards EricYachtsman1. Quote
