For Information only:

The two output Video versions that I have found to work so far are:

MPEG4 (H.264 format) in the Creating HD Video for PC and MAC menu (Default 1920x1080 High Quality Setting). This works fine on suitably equipped modern TV sets with a built in Media Player.

However, I have found that some TV "Set Top Box Decoders" with built in Media Players will only play AVI (.MPG) files.

The setting that I have found that works well for this type of application is:

Create DVD-Video Disc > Create MPEG2 Files

The outputted Videos from PTE in these formats work well.

I omitted to mention that, in the case of some "Set Top Box" decoders and their Media Players, I have found it necessary to take the TV Safe Zone into account and reduce the percentage of image to around 90%.

In these cases the units act like (output like) DVD Players.

Thanks for this info.

I have just connected my PC to Sony Bravia TV using WiFi adapter and find I can play MPEG files from PC but AVI files are not recognised. As most of my older PTE shows are in this format I wonder if it is possible to convert to MPEG?

Freddy.

Freddy,

I don't think that there would be any advantage in doing this.

My Sony is the same - the Media Player only recognizes MPEG4.

You could put the AVI files into a PTE Project and output the the project as an MPEG4 from there. You could put multiple AVIs in the same PTE project.

The Sony would then recognize them.

Frans and Dave,

Many thanks for your quick replies. Will try the video converter later today.

Not sure how to put AVI files into Project and your further help with this will be appreciated. Files made with 5.6 which will have to download again as not being recognised for some reason although still shows in programs.

I have all the EXE files but believe these cannot be converted or re-worked?

Freddy,

You should be able to drag the AVI files from their folder into the Slide List just as you would a JPEG etc.

Then go to PUBLISH and choose HD Video MPEG4 - the output file will play on your TV via USB or Wi-Fi.

Further information:

Mpeg4.H264 (.mp4) files work on a Sony Bravia TV Media Player (USB) as stated above. No TV Safe requirement needed.

The same TV does not support MPEG4-ASP (.avi) and neither does it support MPEG2 (.mpg) files.

Dave,

Many thanks again. Just what was needed on a very wet August afternoon.

Frans suggestion was also very helpfull as could rip some old DVD's from early PTE to MPEG. I know you will shake your head at the definition but viewing on TV will keep the grand children quiet!

Dave,

When I convert an avi-file by your way through PTE to MP4 the sound is very bad, not listenable (very distorted).

What am I doing wrong?

Frans

Posted

Frans,

I make the assumption that the original avi has good quality sound?

If you then set the MPEG-4 quality settings to High it should give a good result. do you know the quality settings for the originals?

Dave,

I tried once again, now with an other project, the result is slightly better.

(The settings of the AVI file conained: Audio: No compressin [PCM] 44100 kHz 16 bit Stereo;

Video: Xvid MPEG-4 Codec)

Why XVid?

Try MPEG4-H.264 or MPEG4-ASP?

Hi Dave,

Thank you so much for thinking and searching for a solution to the noise problem conversion.

I can't find out what the problem is; but in my case, converterting by Freemake however gives a much better result,(moreover the file size is much smaller).

Franz,

Following on from Dave's suggestions you might like to try Jack Pazera's "Zune-Converter" ~ it has many options and I have

used it for the past 2 years with good success. File-size only 3.6.Mz. (available from Snapfiles gratis). Image and details below.

Hope it helps you.

Footnote.

It might be obvious (now) but MPEG4 (H.264) Video Files do not "fit to screen".

If you have a TV which is "HD Ready" but not necessarily 1920x1080 (one of my TV's is 1366x768) then a portion is lost when it is presented with a 1920x1080 default MPEG4 from PTE.

Since 1366x768 is not one of PTE's presets the CUSTOM option has to be used.

Dave,

Since you have been talking about "MPEG4", I have a question about this that has puzzled me for some time. I use Freemake Converter to convert my MOV video files to MP4. I don't convert to AVI because the MP4 format seems to always give me smaller sized files. Anyway, my question is, when I select 'MP4' as the format I want to convert to, I then have the choice to choose the 'MPEG4 video codec' (see attached). I have the choice of 'H.264' or 'MPEG4'. I see that you talk about 'MPEG4 (H.264)', so I am confused as to what video codec should be used or why one would be better then the other.

Can you shed some light on which Video Codec is 'better'?

Thanks... Gary

Hi Gary,

I have never set foot into those murky waters.

I have always used the default preset of 1920x1080. if you then go to Custom I think it displays the settings for that preset?

Dave,

I took a look but I don't see any 'Video Codec' choices in Custom.

I posted the question in the general Forum.

You're right.

The highlighted screen shot that I posted shows that the presets are all variations on the H.264 MPEG4.

Video - builder offers some different codecs?
