Guest Yachtsman1 Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 I do not understand the relevance of this request. Your original problem was, as I understood, desktop "flashbacks" between your menu and the triggered sequences. You said you were using "Run Slideshow..." rather than "Run Application...". If that is so, all PTE sequences are being played by the same single instance of the PTE player. Technically, there should be no opportunity for any "flashbacks" to happen if yout hardware is properly configured. You've since made it clear that your laptop, where the problem appears, has two graphics cards and that you have been advised that the nVidia needs "authorising" to each executable that wants to use it. This has put you in the position that I described in one of my earlier posts (the same situation that Wilmslow Guild found themselves in). I would suggest that any further investigation into the PTE aspects of the problem is pointless until you have got the hardware sorted out.PGAHi PeterI reported the Video card phenomena earlier in this thread & supplied a link to a thread where I reported it shortly after I got the laptop in January 2012, so it isn't something new. There was also another separate thread where the poster had similar symptoms & I advised him of my solution at the time, maybe you missed them? When you started becomming interested in this thread, you said you wanted to simulate my menu, I thought exactly, yours discounting the series isn't.Regards EricYachtsman1. Quote
Guest Yachtsman1 Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Incidentally for anyone else interested, when I experienced this flashback phenomena on my laptop, it was running on the internal battery which I read from other sources has been known to cause hardware errors.Yachtsman1. Quote
sospan Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 Eric,Your problem is easily solved.I understand that you use Audacity for your dedicated audio requirements and not the facilities within PTE. There are numerous menu creation programmes available, I use AUTOPLAY MENU DESIGNER which is easy to use and extremely flexible, It's a relatively inexpensive programme with a good tutorial section. You use a dedicated programme for audio, why not do the same for menu creation. Can't understand what you watch on TV, plumb in a new dishwasher or go shopping in B@Q and Dunelm has to do with the PTE forum.Facebook would be more appropriate for that.Ray. Haven't seen much AV activity on Facebook, still I wouldn't would I as I'm not a member.Yachtsman1. Quote
Guest Yachtsman1 Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 For what it is worth, with computers I always assume that if something does not work then it will be my fault and not the computer and not the software. Starting from that point will usually sort it out. BTW, I enjoy clowns!Nothing wrong with the computer, I suspect the way it is configured is in conflict with the way I am using it with PTE. Surprised you like clowns, thought you were more of an Auguste, as this definition states- (a type of circus clown who usually wears battered ordinary clothes and is habitually maladroit or unlucky) ;)/> Yachtsman1. Guest Yachtsman1 Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 My lenovo ideapad i7 ivy bridge/geforce 2gb gtx660m with optimus has the option of setting the default gpu to integrated or nvidia (assuming laptop is plugged in). The integrated hd4000 seems to work just as well or better than the nvidia on my slideshows. I am guessing PTE composites objects (including video frames) into a ram buffer and can not take advantage of h.264 hardware acceleration (60fps).You should be able to set the default gpu just by right clicking on any .exe and making the default change in the optimus software. Maybe it has to do with connecting to an external display/projector? Will the article be online somewhere?TomHi TomIt's my public show tomorrow & the support for my LT have not replied yet. Checked their forum & the graphics card selection is a common topic on there, one person suggested going into Device Manager to de-select the basic card which makes the NVIDIA the only one. Whether this will cure the menu problem, I don't know & I'm loath to make such a change with my limited LT technology knowledge. Have you done anything similar?. Doesn't seem as though PGA replied to your query unless it was by PM?, so I checked AV News on the RPS site but you have to be a subscriber to get into the detail. Also checked Wilmslow AV groups web site but couldn't find anything there, maybe PGA will provide links to where this info is displayed? I'm pre-empting not being able to cure the flashback by just putting all the exe's in a folder & accessing them that way in case all else fails.Regards EricYachtsman1. Quote
Guest Yachtsman1 Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Just had a quick look in my desktops innards & it seems simple to switch off a card, however, if that card is used for other actions it may be more involved, I will look into the LT later..Yachtsman1. Quote
PGA Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 ...maybe PGA will provide links to where this info is displayed? I did when I first mentioned it (post #19 I think it was; way back up in this long dialogue). I repeat here again: AV News Issue 191 February 2013. That is a link to good, old-fashioned, paper-and-ink technology. I never said there was an online version available.PGA Quote
Guest Yachtsman1 Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Well, where do I start? This morning after doing some checking on the net & not coming up with a solution to my problem, I dug out the LT with the intention of switching off the intel graphics card to see what would happen. After receiving a dire pop up warning, I decided not to. I went into the menu & displayed the button screen & checked each button in the sequence they are displayed, the first two Monmouth & Worcester displayed the flashback, then I tried one I'd made recently Botanic Christmas, no flash back :blink:/>/> so then I tried the rest & Edinburgh Afloat, Around the Firth of Forth,St Patrics, & Edinburgh Fringe all displayed flashback, the rest didn't. After checking the dates the duff shows were made, they were all before October 2012. So obviously something changed on my desk top system in October, either the NVIDIA driver update, or a Windows update which caused the problem. Why that should happen, I don't know but there it is. I have remade two of the shows to make sure & they now work fine. So the others will follow & hopefully my public show will proceed without faults. :D/> Thanks to all those who made "Constructive" comments.Yachtsman1. Quote
