Eric M. Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 I am unable to synchronize my slide to the duration of the background music in a way I really like.My project consists of about 80 slides and 7 minutes of music. In “project options”, main tab, I mark “synchronize slideshow to music duration”.So far so good, now all the slides have the same duration and at the end of the music the show stops. But I want the last 9 slides to be displayed for a very short time (about 1 second) because these slides built up to form the words “The end” with one extra slide in front and after these letters. The other 71 slides have to be in sync with the rest of the music. One would think that this could be arranged in the “slide list” by clicking on the P and Customize slide. But this has no effect on the duration of the last 9 slides. In the “customize slide nr x”, on main tab, I mark “use own time preference” and give one second displaytime. The first and the last (of the 9 slides) have there own transition effect and are displayed a little bit longer, the others have no effect. What am I doing wrong? If on the other hand I use in “project options”, “main” tab , “customize synchronisation”, mark “customize synchr..( you set etc) I run into another problem.I click on “timed points”, “add arranged points” now all the slides (including the customized slides) display thesame time. If a slide the last 9 slides closer to each other I get a big gap of time between slide 71 and 72. What I want is that slides 1 to 71 are equally divided over the remaining music duration without me having to slide each of the 71 slides to there correct position.Again what am I doing wrong? Quote

Have you watched the presentation "PTE 101" by Al Robin? It has an excellent section on synchronizing with the time line.Isabel Quote
alrobin Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 Hi, Eric,Welcome to the Forum! No, you're not doing anything wrong - just that you're not doing it right! The easiest way to "sync" to the timeline is as you did - spread them evenly over the length of the music. Then you have to either adjust the last slides manually and readjust the other slides to fill in the large gap, or use my "Adjustor" model to modify the delay times between slides. It is available as a download on Beechbrook. If you are not familiar with MS Excel spreadsheets, though, this model may be a little difficult to understand. And, if you do not have Excel 97 or 2000, you won't be able to run it at all.If you change the delay times between slides using "Customize Slide" the program will ignore them when you are in sync mode, as PTE obtains the timing for the slides (except for transition times) from the timeline. The easiest way to change the timing on the timeline is to use the "New Transition" button to "drop" the slides where you want them according to the beat of the music, and according to approximately how long a delay you want between slides. You may even have to make several "runs" at this before you get it right.Hope this helps! Quote
Eric M. Posted February 3, 2004 Author Report Posted February 3, 2004 Thank you Isabel and Al,I didn't realize that changing the display time wíll not work in sync mode.I will now manualy shift the slides on the time line.I will certainly try your program, although I don't know much about Excel. Thanks again.
