Problem with thin frame around image

Hi,

I have been having a problem with a thin line showing around images for TV. The frame shows OK with the exe or mp4 on computer but does not show the sides and sometimes the top and bottom on television.

I make the frame in photoshop and have double checked that it is in fact a 1920 x 1080 image and saved as a .png file.

I have double checked that my settings in both 7.5 pte and video builder are set for 1920 x 1080.

I publish the video as DVD-Video disc so maybe I may be making an error here? I need to save it like this because most of the folks viewing it on their LCD"s cannot play mp4 on their players.

I have a 42 inch LCD flat screen TV and no matter what aspect ratio I select for play back it is the same problem but on computer it's OK.

I also have tried it on a 55" LCD that I have access to and it's the same problem. I am hoping to solve this problem before finishing the next 2 shows so any help is appreciated.

Hi Steven,

May be 2 problems:

1. Did you respect the so called "Show Safe TV Zone", in O&A?

2. Can your 42 inch LCD flat screen TV (and same with 55" LCD) show "Overscan/Underscan" modes? Because in one of them (I can't remember which) image is croped and does not show the 100% image you can see on your computer.

By using the "Show safe TV zone" in O&A much more appears to be cropped out then what is on the TV. It almost seems that show safe TV zone is for regular non LCD TV's (4:3?)

My flat screen can change the modes as you described and changing them still does not allow the full frame to show.

Try:

Untick the Fixed Size of Slide box??

Is your dvd player an upscaling model??

Blu Ray players with HDMI handle this best.

DG

Dave,

Fixed Size of Slide box was already unticked.

Regarding the player connected to the TV you could have me there. Both my player and the one connected to the 55" are older players so that could be a problem but I am not sure how.

In your case I would play with the TV Safe percentage to see if a larger/smaller percentage does it for you.

I am using 7.5.6 and am not sure where this percentage is located.

Steven,

You can "Show TV Safe Zone" by clicking on the option in Preferences > Editor.

Go to O&A and make sure that your project then fits inside the Blue area. Project Options > Defaults > % of slide to show full image will adjust the image if required.

Could you post a single image Template or Backup in Zip so that we can see your setup???

project, in this case, you will have more than one page and the suitable buttons will appear on the

menu.

The next two buttons Redo/Undo give you an opportunity to make some changes, if you want to

correct something in your menu.

Nearby Redo/Undo buttons you can see the Scale button, with the help of which you can change

the size of the preview window, if you want to customize it and you need another scale. The

default is Auto. But you may select from 10% to 500% of the screen.

As you can see from the figure below, the preview window is surrounded by dark rectangle, which

shows safe TV zone.

In the first picture you can see this rectange which determines the zone you won`t see on your TV.

In the second picture you can`t see this zone, you just see the whole picture on you monitor. It is

recommended to show TV safe zone, because it is more convenient to adjust your menu watching

this zone. But if you want to switch this option off for some reason, then you should right-click on

the menu and the following box will be opened.

This dialog box is the same as Edit menu of this window. So

you have two ways of opening it: by right-clicking on the

preview window and by clicking on the Edit menu in the left

upper corner of the main window.

You can see several options here, almost all of them have

been described already.

Apply changes for each page is the option, which helps

you to make all changes very quickly. If you have more than

one project and more than one page in the menu and you

have done some changes on the first or second page, for

example, you can click on this option and these changes will

be applied for all pages.

After adjusting this window, press the button Next to go to the next step.

When clicking, the following window for burning the disc will be opened.

 First you can enter the name of your project. In our example the project is untitled, but in

your project you can click on this word and enter any name you wish.

 If you wish you can create MPEG2 Files, DVD Folders and an ISO image of your project.

Check the boxes and just choose the folders for them on your computer.

 In Burn DVD disc option the device and the speed of burning is determined

The effect of this will depend on your DVD Player and whether it is Upscaling or not. You need to get the Spec for the DVD Player?

Hi Dave,

I think I did this correctly so attached is images with 2 blanks and frame included. I removed the music and rest of images.

Hello Ken,

The above instructions are for creating a menu in video builder. I know how to publish a show but I do not make menus (yet) because each show that I have been making is just a single show, I.E. one show on one DVD. This is because most of the shows have been for my wife's family or an special show (see the attached zip).

I was under the impression that I could scale the show TV safe zone in PTE

If your problem still is that TV SAFE ZONE, you just have to create a frame, put everything inside that frame, and than zoom-out the frame to 81% in order to put everything inside the TV SAFE ZONE.

I enclose this done for you as "To PTE Forum 01.pte".

Please note that I am working with PTE 7.0.7

I could see that your second slide does not include your picture "School_0280.jpg". Instead, in "Customize Slide", you put it under "Tiled background picture". Any reason?

I had to replace it by puting it under that 81% frame in order to zoom it out like other objects.

Steven,

In order to progress quickly, here's my suggestion.

Ignore PTE's TV Safe Zone (for 1920x1080) - it does not represent what actually happens and needs to be looked at again by PTE. (Your project highlighted this).

I have tried the following with your project and burned a DVD with it to play on my oldest DVD Player. It works fine.

Add any of your 1920x1080 images to a Blank Slide and change its opacity to zero. Mark this as the MAIN OBJECT of the slide (O&A Properties). You can use this as a "MAIN IMAGE frame" to which you can add all other images.

Now add the various other images, text etc as CHILDREN of the MAIN OBJECT.

Do the same for all slides.

When you are ready to burn, (with Fixed Size of Slide unticked), go to Project Options / Defaults and set 90% of slide to show Main Images.

This will reduce everything to the same relative percentage. Burn it and try it - if 90% is too much and you get a black area outside of your white line frame, try 91% or 92%.

Some other observations: Try to keep a Key frame at Zero for all Objects.

Your School image is not a true 16:9 image - there is no need to reduce it in size - use 1920x1080 and place it behind your frame in ORDER and you will get the same effect.

I will send you a Template or post it here later.

I do not remember making these errors. I do remember spending a while with the original image in photoshop as there were a number of people in front of the school that needed to be removed in order to get the effect that I wanted. I believe the size problem came about when I noticed that the perspective needed to be corrected and I should have double checked to see if resizing was needed.

Dave - I am pretty sure I understand what you are suggesting and will study the template you send to confirm.

Thanks,

Steven

Steven,

Here is the promised Template.

I have added a "Black BG" JPEG to act as a MAIN IMAGE (Parent Image).

If you unzip this and open it, all you have to do is go to Project Options and set the "% of main Image" to 90-92% before you begin the Burn to DVD process (click on "Apply to All Slides") - I think that you will find that it works. On my TV the 92% figure is just about perfect.

Try it as a test?

Thank You Dave. I will do a few tests tomorrow.

Thanks to all who gave me ideas to work on.
