colin hill Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Hi all,Penguin Island is situated south of Perth and a 5 minute ferry ride takes you from the mainland to the island. The island is small in size and by following the pathways which have been constructed for the public, one can see most of the island. We encountered a lot of bird life on the island and unfortunately did not see many wild penguins as they were either in the ocean or out of sightunder rocks due to growing their new set of feathers. We did attend a show of the little penguins which are the smallest in the penguin family. These are featured in my show taken wth my 200mm lens. The day we were on the island, the wind was howling and this is evident from my shots of the ocean. Despite this, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the island.I have attached a link to a website which tells more about Penguin Island for those that may be interested.http://www.penguinisland.com.au/Comments on the show are welcome.http://www.mediafire.com/?r8n1dzuenhglsl8 Quote
David Porter Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Hi Colin,You do make me envious - all that blue sky and shimmering sea but when I look out of my window all I see is snow. When will it end? Nice shots and well put together. I did feel there were a few shots where the horizon cut the photo in half with the top half being plain blue sky although you have other shots where you have concentrated more on the foreground. But very enjoyable. Quote

I tried to apply the 1/3rd rule in most of my shots, but when on holiday and trying to absorb all around you and all the new sights, this was not always possible. I do like to take shots from ground level if possible, thus giving more depth to the shot. In a lighter vain, I often found myself lagging behind family as I tried to get the best shot and then rushing off to catch up. Quote

We had a few days of cloud and rain when we first arrived, but otherwise for the balance of the 6 weeks we were in Perth, it was absolutely perfect and very very hot. Have not decided where off to next. I hope to make a trip soon up our coast to the St.Lucia Estuary, a world heritage site where I hope to take photos' of the wild life and the magnificent scenery it has to offer. Quote
