Lin Evans Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Posted June 12, 2013 Kolor - the inventors and developers of Autopano Pro stitching software, etc., are breaking new ground here - I just signed up as a beta tester for their new technology.... Check out this video:Link To Demo by Kolor in Iceland....A little more detail on this. Doing panoramic video photography requires multiple video cameras operating simultaneously. Unlike still 360 degree panoramas, video panoramas have to be synchronized in "time," so it can't be done by rotating a single camera about an axis. The way this is automatically done is via the sound tracks which are used to reference video frames on the multiple videos at points in time. There are a number of devices available which hold multiple cameras. Among the most popular are the little GoPro models and most of these available devices hold from five to seven of these cameras. The device is placed on a tripod or "pole" and all cameras have overlapping fields of view. Once the videos have been taken, then the beta software "stitches" these separate videos into a single 360 degree video which may be 360 degrees on the horizontal axis and 180 degrees on the vertical, or with seven cameras it may be "close" to 360x360. After stitching, there is free software which uses HTML5 players to play back either on-line or even on devices such an iPad. Lin Quote
