denny Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 At my first attempt I have made a really good slide show with music and commentary and recorded it on CD perfectly well. However I would like to prepare a file in order to record it as a SVCD file in order that it can be played on a DVD player. When I click 'Video' on the PTE screen and it then invites me to prepare an AVI file it comes up with the message "..Can't .." but does not say why not !!HELP !!! Quote
nobeefstu Posted February 15, 2004 Report Posted February 15, 2004 Welcome denny,When you say you click Video (button on PTEs main screen) ... you then get a message "Cant ..." ?Are you unable to see the pop-up menu "Making of AVI Video File" and choose the radio button selections (Create Custom AVI, VCD Disc, SVCD Disc, DVD Video Disc) ?Tell us more about your exact steps and choices. Also, does your burning sofware support creation of video to discs (VCD, SVCD, DVD) ?Note:If you selected to create a Custom AVI file and receive the message "Cant ... ", this is most likely due to the Audio Codec and Video Codec you have selected thats currently on your OS. Creating a Custom Avi is all dependent on what Codecs you select. Each Codec has various capabilities and limitations and some just wont produce a stand alone avi file (alot to do with its configurations ... as some just decode and not encode) Quote
denny Posted February 16, 2004 Author Report Posted February 16, 2004 Hi Nobeefstu !Many thanks for taking an interest in my problem. I get what you say about codecs, etc but this is a strange area to me at present.I will list the procedures that I go through ..........1. Click on 'Video' on PTE screen2. This produces the menu '..Making of AVI file '3. Create AVI file.4. Select SVCD(Interlaced)5. Goes to Encoding6. Click 'Create AVI'7. Select Video Codec and 'OK'8. Select 'Pictures to Exe'Video codec + 'OK'9. Menu='Create AVI....save as Microsoft AVI10. 'Cant' !!!!BUT...if I select Ulead Movie Factory it does prepare an AVI file.BUT ... the program which I use for DVD's (Sonic My DVD) will not import it.'My DVD' supports-- Mpeg1 & 2 ---- AVI Type 1 & 2 ---WMV.Does this make things any clearer ?Denny Quote
nobeefstu Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 Denny,Im not familar with Sonic My DVD and all its file format encoding capabilities ... and all its versions differences.Does your SONIC support creation of SVCD format ? (since you are exporting PTE>SVCD)As a test, have you tried to create a Custom (stand alone avi) and then import it to SONIC to create a SVCD and see if it works?* Usually the message "Cant ... " indicates the codec selected/used cannot perform/convert to the action you request. Quote
