Creating Chapters for a slide show

Warren

Recommended Posts

Hi - I just created my first slideshow on "PicturestoExe". It is about 30 minutes long with photos taken across Europe. I would like to create a separate chapter on the menu screen for each city so it can be selected and viewed without having to fast forward.

The only chapter option I have found is set by minutes. Since the cities vary in length this is not very useful. Is there a way of starting chapters on specific slides? If not, is there an alternative to creating one DVD slideshow where each city has a menu option? Thanks for your help.

Hi Warren

You are asking 2 separate questions there, exe menus are one subject, DVDs another. If you want to construct an exe menu there are lots of items in the tutorial section of the forum, some are mine, if you want to narrow the search. DVD menus, I haven't been involved with but have read of others who have constructed them using PTE video builder. What I would suggest is to create a DVD from your slide show, if you can do that successfully I'm sure someone will point you in the method of splitting into sections.

Hi Yachtsman1 - Thanks for the quick reply. I was able to create the slideshow and the DVD easily. When I viewed the DVD the menu screen shows only one chapter. I press play and everything works perfectly.

When I went back to "Picturestoexe" to update my project I looked for a way to add more chapters that would show on the menu screen. I found an option to add chapters based on time (every x number of minutes). What I am hoping to find is a way to add chapters that begin on a specific slide. This way when I watch the DVD I can select an individual city from the menu screen. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks and have a fantastic week. Warren

You can split your show into sections devoted to the cities and then add the individual shows to the DVD menu.

You can configure them to run consecutively or return to the menu but also choose a city from the menu to start from.

But I think that they have to be individual shows for each city.

Warren,

The concept of a "slide" has no meaning to a video. A video is simply one long, continuous presentation of frames (25 per second usually). So you cannot instruct the video to start at a specific slide.

What you could do, as explained by DaveG, is break your project down into smaller projects - one per city. Then add all of these mini-projects to your VideoBuilder and create a menu that has a thumbnail for each city.

regards,

Peter

Thank you Dave and Peter. The explanations make perfect sense and it should be easy enough to break the slide show into individual shows. I appreciate all three of you taking the time to offer assistance. Have a great week. Warren.
