PGA Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 I have started getting Anti-virus alerts from Malwarebytes Anti-malware. It even catches the temporary EXE file created by Publish command. The file it has started objecting to is the target of a shortcut on my Windows desktop. As an attempt to circumvent this problem I have added the folder in which the EXE is stored to the Exclusions list and have also turned off the Heuristic engine. These actions have successfully circumvented the problem. The EXE that I hit the problem on is one that I had used several times already today, in a version that was probably built with PTE v7.5. I had cause to make changes to the project and published a fresh version of the EXE earlier today using v8.0.8. I used that successfully during the early part of the afternoon. After taking a break away from the computer, I came back and tried to run the same EXE and Malwarebytes flagged it as some kind of Trojan and has quarantined it (but I don't know where and can't seem to find out where through Malwarebytes).regards,Peter Quote

PGA Posted December 30, 2014 Author Report Posted December 30, 2014 Why was it that I couldn't see this when it was sitting there right under my nose? Thanks for the pointer. I've returned the EXE file to its proper folder, and also PteViewer.exe to the WnSoft folder.regards,Peter Quote
Igor Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 Peter,Please can you post a report here:https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/forum/42-file-detections/It's a special page for false positive reports in MalwareBytes antivirus software. Quote
tom95521 Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 Hi Igor,My MB has a false positive for Jean-Cyprien's Christmas 2014. My PteViewer is normal.Posted to the MB forum.https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/topic/162947-picturestoexe-slideshow-false-positive/VirusTotalhttps://www.virustotal.com/en/file/e5f3b95a7e813ecd1f371f4f9a245b3baa74913e167ea52bf44cec8ba46bd579/analysis/1420020519/Thanks,Tom Quote
PGA Posted December 31, 2014 Author Report Posted December 31, 2014 Igor,Over 6 hours ago I created an account on the Malwarebytes forum. It said it would take 10 minutes or less for the e-mail to appear telling how to complete the account setup. I'm still waiting. Twice I have logged in directly to my online e-mail service and there is no sign of any e-mail from Malwarebytes. I have checked the SPAM folder and there is nothing in there, either. I would love to report this problem to Malwarebytes but they do not want to talk to me, it would seem. This morning Malwarebytes again quarantined PteViewer.exe, despite my having restored it from the Quarantine area yesterday. You have to admire its persistence!regards,Peter Quote
tom95521 Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 Hi Peter,I received the subscription verification email message in less than a minute after registration. Maybe it was marked as spam.Tom Quote
PGA Posted December 31, 2014 Author Report Posted December 31, 2014 I have checked the SPAM folder. There is nothing there from Malwarebytes Quote
tom95521 Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 The problem has been fixed. At least it is for the problem I was having with MB.Tom Quote
PGA Posted January 2, 2015 Author Report Posted January 2, 2015 Tom,Thanks for the update. I'll remove my circumventions and see what happens.Peter Quote
Barry Beckham Posted January 2, 2015 Report Posted January 2, 2015 PeterI never experienced anything myself here and I did download a few slide shows from SSC Quote
PGA Posted January 2, 2015 Author Report Posted January 2, 2015 I have now undone that which was previously done, i.e.:deleted the Exclusion list itemsturned on the Heuristic engine...and re-booted the PC. All seems to be OK. No false positives - yet! Quote
