Installing 4.3b1

Any tips / gotchas on installing the new release?

Will it install over or next to 4.2?

Do I need to specify a new folder?

Should I uninstall 4.2 first?

Anything else I should watch out for?

Is there somewhere where I should have read about this so I didn't have to ask here?

This is my first upgrade of this sw so I don't want to make a mess.

Thanks!

Dag

i always install new versions in a separate folder and on a different drive than my original 3.4 then i direct xp to open the one i wish

i got into trouble when i had some things labelled wrong, but have had as many as 12 +- versions installed at once -- when troubleshooting it helps to have the different versions at hand.

labelling of folders where the program resides is important

i will be making my first dvd using the beta version

I put and install new versions in different/separate folders (named according to the release number). It doesn't take much space and I think that it is safer if, for any reason, one has to use an older version. I also keep the original .zip file just in case (in case of what? I don't know, I never had any trouble! :) )

Well I'm glad you asked this question dagrace, :)

I just downloaded the new version without thinking and it has converted my 4.2 to the 4.3. At the moment I seem to have difficulty bringing image files in. : :( Am I doing something wrong? Should you re- register? I wish I'd read this forum first. It would seem a good idea to have instructions to follow when updating versions. As you said maybe there is somewhere? <_<

I took some of the advice above and created a new folder.

When I ran the setup.exe, it goes through the normal disclaimers and such. Then when it gets to "where do you want to install it?" instead of the default of C:\Program Files\Pictures To Exe, I just changed it to C:\Program Files\Pictures To Exe43b1. Everything else was the same. It copied all the files to the new directory, so now I have 2 copies. I didn't have to re-register.

If that didn't happen for you, maybe one of the experts can help. Maybe uninstall everything, then re-install (and re-register) 4.2, then install 4.3 in a new folder? Just an idea. That's not official advice (yet) ;)

Hawk emailed me with the following question:

How would you uninstall ? - just delete the files in the new folder. Or is PTE listed twice in the Control Panel - Add ? Remove ?

I poked around a bit and answered as follows:

Interesting...

I have it listed only once in the control panel (running XP Home). And if I

look in the Start/Programs/PTE, there's only 1 listing, which does have an

uninstall, by the way.

However, in each of the folders in C:\Program files\PTE and PTE43b1, there

is an uninstall.exe.

Guess I'd run that in the correct folder of whatever version you're trying

to uninstall. Don't know what happens to the registration in regedit,

however.

I think this is a question for the experts. I'll post this in the topics and

see what hits we get.

Any takers to shed some light on these questions/answers?

Thanks

Dag

when i delete the extra versions i just delete the unpack folder -- i save the different versions in the original zip format in case something comes up to bite ;)

then i can go back to the last working version

the one in the control panel add/remove function is the original"first install"
