How does "Hide Child objects" work?

According to the docs,
Hide Child objects: Will hide any objects inserted as a Child of a main object

I thought that meant that if this option is checked with the parent object selected, all attached child objects would be hidden but as does not appear to be the case in my testing, there must be another explanation?

Hi,

You must also uncheck one of the two boxes Show front side or Show back side

If both these two cases are unchecked, and Hide child objects checked, all the children will be unvisible.

Wow, what a great demonstration! Thanks much. I can't say that it's crystal clear me exactly how it all works at first glance, but I get the general idea and with a bit of study using your example I should be able to get up to speed quickly.
