PhillDB Posted November 27, 2019 Report Posted November 27, 2019 After upgrading to PTE 10 I’ve noticed that some areas are running slower than with previous versions. This is particularly noticeable in O&A when slide styles are used. The image takes a good few seconds longer to load when it contains a slide style. I suspect that I may need to upgrade my PC (I could do with upgrading anyway) which will be helpful with other graphics programs such as Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic CC, but I am not sure what specification to go for (I will self build if necessary). Can anyone suggest a suitable specification in relation to mother board/processor/graphics card/memory etc? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Phill Quote
Igor Posted November 28, 2019 Report Posted November 28, 2019 Hi Phill, Tell me what video card installed in your computer? Even on relatively old PCs PTE 10 should work as fast as PTE 9. Try a special mode in main menu > Settings > Preferences > System tab. Tick "Alternate renderer...". Click OK and restart PTE. If it doesn't help, untick this option as earlier. Regarding a new computer. Ideal desktop computer for PTE 10 and for several future versions: AMD Ryzen 5 or 7. Or Intel Core i7. 8+ GB of system memory. NVIDIA Geforce 1060, or 1650 with 3GB of more. I recommend Gigabyte WindForce model - it's noiseless for work in PTE. SSD drive where installed Windows 10. This computer will offer exceeding power for any tasks in PTE 10. I highly recommend NVIDIA graphics for best quality and speed for video encoding with "Hardware acceleration" option. Encoding works faster in 3-4 times. Quote
PhillDB Posted November 28, 2019 Author Report Posted November 28, 2019 Hi Igor Thanks for your reply. I have an Nvidia graphics card but it only has 1gb of memory. My pc is over 4 years old so is a bit out of date. I will try your suggestion with ‘alternative render’ but I’ll probably build a new computer according to your suggested specification, as my present one has a lower specification than this. Best wishes Phill Quote
tom95521 Posted November 28, 2019 Report Posted November 28, 2019 The new graphics cards are very powerful and if you have room for a second monitor PTE works great with full screen preview in one monitor and the editor in the other monitor. Tom Quote
AlexRoma Posted November 29, 2019 Report Posted November 29, 2019 What do you think of a nvidia quadro (like the P620) for PTE? Quote
tom95521 Posted November 29, 2019 Report Posted November 29, 2019 I have never used a workstation graphics card on my desktop computers but this is what I found searching. The P620 is a lower power/lower bandwidth mobile GPU compared to desktop Geforce models. It's a Pascal based GPU with 2 GB of memory. https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-GTX-1060-vs-Quadro-P620 Performance close to Geforce GTX 1050https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_Quadro#Video_cards It's important that a graphic card has NVENC h.264 hardware chip(s) for hardware accelerated video encoding (also most Intel CPUs have quick sync). Not all Nvidia Quadros have h.264 video encoder. https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix Tom Quote
