Times & Dates on Images

I'm sure there are dozens of utilities for this function out there...

Who can recommend the best?

I want (minimal effort) tag the images with DATE and TIME stamp, so that there is no danger it gets altered in the file details and gets lost.

All low tech. but effective, solutions considered.

What problems may I encounter?
