Timing music

hello everyone

So far I have been adding slides to my music one at a time and customising them individually. I now would like to fade this piece of music out and bring in a different piece. If I could see how much of the music I have used I could go and edit my music to fade in and out at this point. I have not used the time line yet to place slides in on the fly. Is this the only way of seeing how much music i have used for the slides placed in so far?

if they are mp3 sound clips you can open each clip individually outside the program with a music player such as Irfanview or Audacity and read how long they play
