How to use a displacement map

I am trying to use a displacement map image to add moving ripples to water.

However, I am not having any success and am completely baffled!

Any help would be much appreciated.

It is easy, but you have to move the displacement map between keypoints for it to do anything.

Thank you very much for the tutorial. It clarifies a lot the operation of Displacement Maps

One question:
In this way I notice a bit that the slide that enters is static.
Would it be possible to do the same on the next slide so that the effect looks like the two images merge?

If we apply the displacement maps to transitions, I think it may be what you mean.

I notice in Barry's video that the built in Displacement Maps show X-Waves and Y-Waves

In Beta 5 we only have Waves?

Will the X & Y be in the next beta??
