Thanks Mur,

It is nice to see the breakdown on how you are accomplishing your displacement maps.

Looking forward to exercise 2.

Thanks Kieron, you are one of the few who give me feedbacks. I love them, the good ones are flattering, but the bad ones if are reasoned, they teach me a lot. I want them all

Thanks Tonton Bruno, it is one of my multiple exercises only to understand Objects and Animation. Not useful for "normal" videos

Interesting !

Thank you Manuel.

Me too, thank you MUR for these examples. I also have to work to fully understand the possibilities of the displacement map feature

Tonton Bruno, Everything is right. Masks to limit the effect of the displacement map. The program does not have a tool for cutting or creating masks of any shape, so a regular template mask is used, copying and modifying which you can cut out the desired fragment of the layer. That is, by combining round masks, changing their size, rotating them and moving them, you can achieve the desired result. The effect of the displacement map depends on the mask file, let's say using a black-and-white linear gradient, you can achieve the effect of a bent layer.
chanfi22, I'm glad I could help you somehow. Thanks for the comments.

something to emphasize: It is no longer mandatory to use normal maps as masks for displacement maps; any black and white image can be used.

And any colour picture can be used also.

videos can also be used as displacement maps.

But to acheive the effect of height differences then a Normal Map is best.

Thank you everyone. All this work while I was having my beauty sleep! I am looking forward to trying out your method this afternoon Bad Dancer. Thank you. No doubt there will be questions! I am excited about being able to apply movement to water.

Hi Everyone,

I have to admit defeat with the displacement maps. Would someone please give me a short tutorial as to what steps I must take to achieve the rippling water? Which maps to use from step 1 etc Displacement map or Mask templet adapted to the shape required for the ripples.

Hi

Rosemary, I recommend Barry Beckham's tutorial on Displacement Maps, I was lost and that tutorial taught me the basics clearly and concisely. Then practice, practice and practice to discover the infinity of details.

Hi Mur,

Thank you. I have followed Barry's tutorial and I agree it is excellent. I think my problem is the application of several masks and where to apply  the displacement maps. Barry starts with a blank slide but in this case I have several places to apply the ripple effect.
