Encoding in Windows Media Encoder 9

Has anyone tried using a PTE .avi output file as input to WME 9? When I try this WME 9 crashes (the error message is that it is trying to write memory at location 0).

Igor, is this a bug with the way PTE writes .avi files?

I've waited a few days now and I see no e-mail from you. Anyway the problem is that WME just keeps on consuming virtual memory, no matter how high I set my virtual memory in Windows XP SP2. Then it eventually just crashes with an error message that it couldn't read a memory location.

2) CPU in your PC, memory size.

3) Version of Windows and DirectX.

4) Version of Media Player (9 or 10?)

5) Please send me screenshots with settings of "Video" window in PicturesToExe

6) Also send me step-by-step description how you imported PTE video to WME9?

(I tried with File -> New -> Convert a file -> "File download (computer playback)"

- > High definition 5mbps VBR, 1280x720)

7) What duration of slide-show and is it synchronized?

8) Will the problem appears if you try with another project of slide-show?

This will help us to find exact reason of the problem and prepare new

PTE version during nearest days.

My apologies to everyone - I spoke too soon. PTE's .avi files can be encoded just fine with WME. WME, it seems, does not play well with others. So if anyone plans to use it, plan on having a PC with little or no other software on it.

As said in another topic, the ouput .avi is, for the moment, the best soluce. You can to choice, after, your own encoder or software to burn DVD.

The ouput quality is excellent and the "PTE codec" very well adjusted, always for many softwares.

I had strictly no problem ... although I worked on my PC (Word document, listening to an audio CD with Winamp, ...), ignoring the process in progress.

Nothing special happened and my WMV file was ready after 25mn

AMD Athlon 1.01 GHZ

SDRAM 512 MB

NVIDIA GEFORCE 2MMX, 32MB Video memory

Version 10 of Media Player

Windows XP Pro SP1

Direct X 9.0c

PTE v 4.43

Orta / PTE = exe 12 MB, 3:18 mn

Wmv 640 X 480, 9 Mo

Just one question, why did you want especially a WMV format ?

Just one question, why did you want especially a WMV format ?

I don't know what was on my PC to prevent WME from working before, so I built a new PC with XP Pro, SP2 and PTE 4.41 and then it worked fine.

The reason I want WMV format is so I can release a documentary I'm producing in High Definition. BluRay and HD-DVD are a long way off - probably years before either is available at consumer prices. WMV HD is here today and the quality is excellent.

I've been using WMEnc for some time now, and it workded fine, but for some reason it started crashing randomly when i try to create a new session/change properties, load file etc.

I think it mite have to do with any changes in systems codecs?

WMP version is 9 (installing 10 as writing).

Anyone else had this problem?

It seems to be related to .avi files, althought they are suported, because if i try to broacast a .wmv file everything works well. But if i open the .avi file in WMP it runs well both video and music.

Is it codec related?

By the way, WMP 10 didn't help.
