All of a sudden my PC seems unable to play the video (VOB files) from either external disks or video files on my HD. AVI plays OK.

I get an error message which apparently means the media player(s) cannot find a codec to process the video.

I am at a loss as to what to do - there seems to be quite a few v.codecs in my system but neither Nero Showtime or Real Player or WMP seem able to play ( audio is OK on all these players)

I don't want to go to a re-format and install ( not before Christmas anyway)

Any thoughts?

WHEN DID it work last

what have you installed lately

did you reboot

did you run chkdisk

if you have xp maybe try a system restore

a reformat is defintely not in order

Thanks Ken

I recently installed evaluation copy of Blaze Media Pro for editing avi files. Before that I suspect all was well. I have removed Blaze now but the problem hasn't gone away.

I run (unfortunately) win 2K, I did reboot, but not run chkdisk as yet.

I'll give it a try.

Den,

You might just need to re-install your windows media player, or reinstall the free copy of RealPlayer.

try this

Thanks for that Ken - Dloaded VCL player and it works fine !

This still leaves me unable to use Nero Showtime, WMP & RPlayer but I'm follwing up your other suggestions.

Thanks again.
