THIS FREEBIE will help you out if you are not sure what you have on your system

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html#tips

The Belarc Advisor builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server.

Operating Systems: Runs on Windows 95/98/Me, NT 4, Windows 2000, XP and Windows Server 2003.

Ken,

You are amazing. How do you find about these gems. Downloaded Belaric and got a detailed overview of computer which is very useful. I often install different software and it is very useful to have a list of what is present.

Incidently I use a system image tool called Acronis True Image (it is Linux) to make a complete image of my main C:\ drive. I stor this on an external hard drive so that I can restore the whole of my main system disk in the event of a major crash.

have used it for years -- heard about from zdnet in aug 2000:)

the beauty of it is it provides hot links to the folders where software is installed

it tells you whether you are up todate with virus MS etc
