There is one problem with jerkness on Pan/Zoom effects on some PCs with some installed antivirus. For example, McAfee.

As stand-alone program antivirus doesn't affect to work of slide-show. The problem happens if you have some indexing software, which scans files on your PC. For example, Nero Scout (automatically installed with Nero 7) which continiously builds base of files, ignoring that it shouldn't work when PC is busy and, of course, this activity provokes checking of antivirus on every opened file.

Such combination of two software products vastly loads CPU and slows down PC and of course you see jerks on Pan effect. Because Pan effect in PicturesToExe v5.00 looks very smoothly and work of antivirus and Nero Scout in background disturb to work of slide-show. This problem lesser noticeable on Fade in/out transition effect - in both v4.48 and v5.00

This problem also well noticeable even on watching DVD film on PC.

In 3D games you'll also notice same problem.

And slide-shows created in other products.

Because of this you see that it's not problem of PicturesToExe.

But unfortunately users may think that Pan/Zoom in PicturesToExe's slide-shows work badly.

However we know one universal solution which solves this problem, but it's a very difficult way, it requires long testing, and almost nobody uses this solution. I'm not sure at this moment and my knowledge that it will be right way.

Microsoft, many developers of 3D games, NVIDIA/ATI recommend to describe this situation in FAQ, because it's a problem of developers of antiviruses and file indexing software.

In fact this problem already fully solved on dual-core CPUs. Where one core used for antivirus and second for slide-shows.

Yes, I completely agree with you ~ indeed I have been saying this for some time on this Forum and that also has been vindicated by Ken Cox and Ronnie Boothwest and some other Members.

As well as 'McAfee' you can add 2 more to the List:- Most all of the 'Norton Anti-Virus' since 2004 Versions and Adobe Acrobat 7.0 upwards. Both of these have a 'nasty habit' of hanging around in the background even when they are 'disabled' or shut down.

A good alternative to Norton is 'Grisoft AVG 7.01' as advocated by Ken Cox, we now use it on all our Workshop PC's having finally removed Norton. A good alternative to Acrobat Reader is "Foxit Reader" from www.foxitsoftware.com. This Program is just as small as PTE and it is 'Flash Fast' in operation and opening Pdf.Files and shuts-down properly.

QUESTION:-

Why is it, that when a Member replies to a Posting (underneath an origional Letter) that 'Invision Board' ALWAYS QUOTES the 'origional letter' ?? ~ Its most annoying and a waste of space ~ perhaps I am doing something wrong ?

I agree with the last part of your thread "Question......". I always use ADDREPLY and not "REPLY.

I like the automatic "quote" system very much, as it is a quick way to address a specific comment or question so that the context is maintained. It is very easy to delete portions of the quote that are not applicable to the reply.

But, if I don't want to include a quotation, I simply use "Add Reply", as both Brian and Ron have indicated.

I think the only problem is we don't always see the "Add Reply" option as it is listed only at the end of all entries to the topic. The quote option for reply is available at the end of each and every entry to the topic. I admit, I have forgotten this many times. :)

The above comment is intended for Brian's comment only, not the virus software problem. We can all be greatfull if Igor can somehow solve that one.
