tom95521 Posted Tuesday at 07:07 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:07 PM I recently purchased a M4 Pro Mac mini with 24 GB of memory and 1 TB SSD. I added an Samsung T7 external 4 TB SSD for multimedia files. Performance and compatibility with PTE have been excellent. PTE can create a show (data or video) with four perfectly smooth 4K videos on a split screen. The Mac mini is very small and low power computer that is powerful enough for video editing. For many years Windows was my favorite operating system but as I grow older I find Win 11 more difficult to use with features that I do not want or need. I am very happy PTE runs natively on Apple silicon. 3 Quote
nelson Posted Wednesday at 01:03 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 01:03 AM Hello Tom, I found this very interesting and did some research to enlighten me further. I do a lot of video shows with PTE using a Windows laptop and a projector in large venues. The laptop although only a 15 in version can be a problem for space and heat issues. I also use an external keyboard with Bluetooth so I can move about. The laptop has 16 gb ram and a decent video card. The videos run smoothly. I like the size of 5 inches, as it would not take up much space. I might consider using something like this as the laptop gets older. Do you think this may be an alternative? Take care, Kieron Quote
tom95521 Posted Wednesday at 01:57 AM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 01:57 AM Hi Kieron, I think it should work great. I have four different 4K/30fps 100 Mbps HEVC/H265 GoPro videos running on one slide and it's very smooth. The .pteav data file size is 14GB. The Mac mini can output to three 4K/60 monitors. You can also use an iPad as a monitor on the Mac. I still use a wired keyboard and mouse on my main Mac mini (via usb-c to usb-a converter) but you can use wireless input devices. Thanks, Tom 1 Quote
JudyKay Posted Wednesday at 04:23 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:23 AM I just picked up a Dell XPS 16 9640 with Core Ultra 9, 64 GB RAM, RTX 4070, 2TB SSD. Hopefully that will run PTE I will let you know. Quote
tom95521 Posted Wednesday at 04:31 AM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 04:31 AM Hi Judy, Funny. Nothing wrong with a high performance Windows computer if that's what makes you happy. I know I could not play most of my Steam games on my Mac. 1 Quote
Igor Posted Wednesday at 07:08 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:08 AM Hi Tom, Thanks for sharing your experience with PTE on Mac! Your new Mac Mini on M4 Pro chip looks very powerful and compact. I now have a Macbook Air with basic M3 chip, it is also very fast and absolutely silent. Very long battery life. Quote
JudyKay Posted yesterday at 01:34 AM Report Posted yesterday at 01:34 AM > M4 Pro Mac mini with 24 GB I can almost imagine how fast that must be! I am almost persuaded. But I need Windows for other work and don't need two high-end computers. If I was rich... I have smart friends who switched from Win to Mac and never looked back. I also travel a lot. So, only one laptop can go with me. Maybe one day I will get a Mac when I get back to a log cabin in Alaska. I once lived in a log cabin on an island there. Those were good days! And so are these. Not long ago I explored regions from near Kyzl to Vladivoslok and wondered how close I might be to Igor. I waved really big, just in case! Quote
