Hi,

Having difficulty deciding if this video card is suitable for new version. Was not in the list that appeared some time ago as a poll.

Can anyone clarify where it lies in the ATI Radeon series and whether it is suitable. I find the Redeon numbering rather confusing - does a higher number indicate a better graphics capability?

Thanks

download thes demos from Igor and see if the will run

1) "PteShow" - http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/show/PteShow.zip (12 MB) EXE file

Source files of this project: http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/show/PteShow_sources.zip (12 MB)

Powerful slide-show with high quality 2400x1500 images. Intended for modern video cards.

2) "Flowers" - http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/show/Flowers.zip (1.5 MB) EXE file and source files.

1024x768 images. Works fine almost on any video card.

3) "NoResizing" - http://www.wnsoft.com/apr/show/NoResizing.zip (1.5 MB) EXE file and source files.

This example shows how to display images as is without resizing on any screen display. Exactly pixel in pixel. But personally I don't like this option. It better to use scalable images, as in settings by default.

and

from what has been showing up you need 128 mb of video ram

specs from ati

Thanks Ken but I cannot try before I buy.

It is the ATI spec for the card that I find confusing - the 1150 spec mentions the Radeon X300 as though it is derived from it. I'm afraid I find all graphics card specs pretty obscure.

Hi Jane,

The advertising states that the 1100 series is good to go for Windows Vista so I think you can safely assume that it would be a decent graphics card to run PicturesToExe including the new version 5 and shows with reasonably heavy RAM requirements. Vista will tax any but the better graphics cards. The 1100 series is a chip set designed for this so quite probably a very safe bet for you.

Best regards,

Lin

Hi Gilio,

It really not a strange number - the latest series of cards and chipsets from ATI are outlined in Ken's link. The 1100 series is built into laptops which have the Mobile AMD Sempron™, Mobile AMD Athlon™ 64, AMD Turion™ 64, AMD Turion™ 64 X2 processors. You don't have a choice of using a different card unless you buy a different computer, but these are high performance cards designed for the Vista operating system so should be fine.
