When using the Object Editor to create a transparent button to overlay some text (created in Photoshop) a white border always remains around the transparency. Is there a way of eliminating this 'outline' so that just the text remains visible.

Unfortunately, the transparent "button" object always has an outline. However, you can create a button in Photoshop, and use that as a "picture" object.

Thanks Al, but I will still need to overlay that with a button in order to get PTE to recognise it, won't I.

Ron

Nope - you can apply the same actions to a picture (that's really all a "button" is) as to a button object. Make the button in PhotoShop and import it as a "picture" in P2E then assign actions like you would for any other button.

Hi All

There was talk quite a while ago about using a transparent image as a 'hot spot' for cursor actions. This gave a completely transparent appearance without the annoying frame which comes with the button.

I thought I had kept a note of how to do this but unfortunately can't find it now - anyone remember how it's done?

Can't you just make a transparent GIF file and use that? The "border" area is defined as you look at it, but doesn't display on your slideshow. Make it small enough to not need resizing. If you use PhotoShop just put in File/New (set the size in pixels and set the background to transparent). Just save the crosshatch as a file named "transparent.gif" and use it for your hot spot...

Den,

This was a method for using a "text" object with actions. As you know, normally it is not possible to assign actions to a text object. However, by overlaying a transparent gif over it, and "programming" it in "properties", actions associated with buttons are now possible with text of your choice, and without the annoying outline. :) .

Thanks Al - it all comes back to me now !

It's possible to save a (say) 100x100 pixel transparent gif image and import into PTE's object editor and, after making the background tranparent in properties, use this as a 'hot spot' over any part of the background image to invoke cursor action - smart !

Let's hope it won't be too long before all these facilities are available in v5 !

Thanks

I wrote the following in a thread "Buttons Don't Work" initiated on Feb 27 2005

I create coloured squares or rectangles in Photoshop, using File>New and completing the details in the drop down window. Bearing in mind that I use 1024x768 format, I can judge the sizes of the buttons that I want. For instance I have a square 100 pixels by 100 pixels and a rectangle 500 pixels width by 40 pixels height. I save them with titles Invisible 100.100 and Invisible 500.40 respectively and keep them all in a special folder.

To use them in PTE>Object Editor, click on the Picture button top left and call up the size "Button" that you want. Position it over the spot in the image where you want it, right click, select Properties, check Transparent Background and away you go.

If you want more than one of these buttons for the particular action, before you make it transparent right click on the button and select Copy. Hold the Ctrl key down then press the number of times you want the extra buttons and the Objects window top left will count up. The extra buttons will be stacked on top of the original button and you just drag them over from there to wherever you want them.
