LumenLux Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Posted on Beechbrook.com is a 4 1/2 minute presentation, The Philosophy of Willow LakeI am still trying to decide when and where the PTE V5 features are useful. This short sequence makes rather "quiet" use of some. Probably too much for some viewers? Or do effects just need to be applied "better." Everyone agrees they are good if "not over-used." I suspect "over-use" is not only personal opinion, but is different for each specific presentation. Maybe if we hear enough "opinions" it will make the technical critiques even more useful. So fear not - take a view of this short and express your thoughts. Quote
JPD Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 Bonjour Robert,I am still trying to decide when and where the PTE V5 features are useful. I think it will be the same question for everybody when we will make "real slideshow" and not "test slideshow". May be there is one or two effect not necessary, but you don't use too much new effects. It's the use of them that I found they will be better if modified :The three first Zoom :I think it would have been better to start with Zoom max to finish at zoom min, because we can suppose that people who take the photo doesn't move when people are walking away. So It would be better if they become smaller and smaller. For the flower which rotate, I can image that we turn a little around to have the best view, but we don't move all around, neither several times, so I think a max rotation of 90/120° would be enough. It would be necessary, for everybody, to learn how to use these news effects, and am not sure it will be so easy than we can think. That's well to make this kind of show with the problem of "how to use" the news effects. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Johnwnjr Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 You asked for comments so here we go! I am afraid I did not get the message of Philosophy of Willow Lake, unless it was an enjoyable day that four fellows had walking through some lovely woods to a lake. The music suited the mood very well and the photography and lighting was very good. As far as the new v.5.0 effects go I thought these were used to advantage. I find now after a few weeks of them that it is very easy to quickly become tired of PZR, and yet a sequence without any seems rather ordinary and needs something more. Your dissolves were well chosen.John Quote
LumenLux Posted September 1, 2006 Author Report Posted September 1, 2006 Thank you John and Jean. I'd like to discuss in a day or two. Perhaps others may offer comments in the meantime. Quote

You are asking the same questions as myself as to how to use Version 5 features to the best advantage. I am not sure that I am in favour of some of the very slick effects that some forum members are posting, even although am in awe of their technical expertise. My own thoughts are that the effects must be used very carefully to enhance a show and must form the key part. PZR should be used to bring something to a sequence which would otherwise be less interesting. I am not sure that you achieved this with your show. The zooms did not focus my attention on a particular part of an image. For example, suppose you had a photo of the inside of a church. At the end is the alter with parhaps an ususual alter piece. You show the whole scene and then zoom in to the alter piece. Another effect I have tried is a building with a clock. On the side of the building is a round plaque giving some information about the building. You show the whole building and then zoom out of the clock face the round information plaque. One of the other issues I am stuggling with is how to show text on the screen in conjunction with an associated image. Before Version 5, you might have just added the text in an appropriate part of the image and selected a colour which stood out from the background. Now with Version 5, you can add a small translucent image background for the text and then move the image to cover this when the text has been read. regardsJeff Quote
