windows program for conversion of sound files

Sorry if covered but couldnt find in search . I have used audition for long time but cost is now silly so using audacity . what is best program for converting sound files to say wav from acc or mp4  audition alowwed individual tracks whereas media player although doing some conversions seems to do all tracks on a cd ?maybe just me and not used to windows as tend to use mac a lot for editing images . many thanks in advance

Hi Phil,

If you are ripping music from a cd then use CDEX, it is free. You can rip to WAV or MP3

If you have an MP4 then use PTE to extract the audio from it.
