I have made a test using some simples rules in order to run with 32 mb memory on the graphic card:

- Never have more than 27 mb for 3 consecutives slides (Let be images of which the size don't overtake on average 1838 x 1378 (total of the images composing a slide).

- don't have too quick effects (I used 6s for a zoom 100% to 70% on a 1832 x 1374 size's picture).

In this test there are all the mains effects we need in a slide show, and more :

- a zoom 100% to 16.6%

- a pan 14000 x 1280 with some effets more and a little zoom at the end.

- a pan/zoom (50%)/rotate (360°) on the same view always with 1280 pixels for the pictures' size.

All the picture are at least 1280 x 960.

It's possible to work perfectly with V5, even with these graphic cards.

For the pan, it's easy to do as with V4 and cut in 5 or more the panoramic (15 slides in the test), it's the same for zoom, where I used 5 slides between 100% and 16.6%. If I had used only one slide I would have been obliged to have a very big picture (7688 x 5766 =169 mb for graphic card memory) and the size of the jpg file would have been 3.5 times bigger than the 5 files I used. With this method, the result is smoother on all PC, and it's really simple to do.

You can download the test here.

Note : I hadn't picture enough large to do this test, so I used Google Earth's photos. There are no pictures from me in this test.

These rules would be the same for more memory, only the values would change.

JP,

That was an 11-mile panorama (from Paris to Champs). Too bad you just missed Dom's place - we could have looked in to see how he is doing with his restoration! :)

It ran very smoothly on my advanced system (128 mb video card).

Jean-Pierre,

Great demo, perfectly smooth on a very old pc.

I like the animations a lot too. Very nice !

You opened my eyes on how to make a pan/zoom and how to keep it smooth.

Do you plan to share the PTE project ? :)

Tu as une approche assez technique mais c'est - de mon point de vue en tout cas - fondamental pour pouvoir proposer des projets qui puissent tourner correctement sur la quasi totalité des pc et éviter des déconvenues.

Ta démo en est l'illustration parfaite.

Probably, but later, I am working on a new test smoother and think to make a try with a highter definition.

Hello Jean-Pierre

Very smooth too on my old PC :)

This slideshow and your "Fantaisie florale" give me some hope that the finalized V5 can create other shows than epileptogenic one !

Hello Jean-Pierre, bonjour Jean-Pierre,

I like your test very much.

Not only for the fantastic view of Paris (a few years ago I worked for a French company and we had regularly meetings in Rueil Malmaison and also in the south of France, in Albi near Toulouse), but also for your explanations and practical use of the PTE-program.

It is not alone realy interesting to know how far you can go with your proper computer, but I think it is a must that one knows what the limits are of the machines we are working with. With PTE the sky is the limit, or better, there is no limitation on creativity. Everybody is free to fill it in on his own way, and than it is good to know how technical things work best in a production.

Your test ran very smoothly on my computer:

Pentium 4 - 2,0 GHz - 768 MB cache

Graf.card: GeForce4 MX460 - 64 MB DDR SDRam

Ca ne m'empêchera pas de continuer à tester PTE et à partager mes trouvailles, chacun ensuite en fait ce qu'il veut.
Je vous remercie bien vivement pour cela. I thank you for that.

With PTE the sky is the limit

Not sure, I'll try the next time to go in space with PTE, it must be possible :-)

Indeed it's really a good product, and will be a very good product with the final version.

In one or 2 years, probably the values I give will be obsoletes because of the improvement of the park of PC, but there will be always the same rules to be sure to run correctly on the maximum number of PC.

Even with a Ferrari, if you ask it too much it will falls down, it's the same for our Ferrari which can also been drived as a 2 chevaux everywhere.

Very smooth too on my old PC

Happy it's run fine on your old PC :-)

I'll look forward to it Jean-Pierre

You are right. There is a constant ( r)evolution going on. But if you want to be up-to-date in 2 years time, it's important to learn today I think. Maybe I'll never drive a Ferrari, I'll want to be as close as possible anyway. Sometimes it's also a question of budget, but you don't have to be very rich to have fun.

Important note of the moderator

I edited three messages where are included in french the traces of a serious problem french-french or franco-french.

His place is not on this forum and I wrote for this edition at the admin this morning and at the other moderator.

It's important to keep this forum friendly and to not put in all the personal problems.

Note from Michel

I just deleted all your new post.

The two moderators agree this edition and we will speak about all the problem with the admin1.

Thanks for him!

Is it possible on this forum to don't agree with the critizes of the moderator Michel without he kill the post ?

Yes, Jean-Pierre, it is. I don't like the polemics of this kind, but all members can express their opinions freely here.

Comment of Guido Russo "guru"

I don't know how you can say yes when looking above, I suppose you want to say now it's possible. That's a good thing, thank you.

I put questions,

With what good these sterile arguments and this calling into question of JPD per Mr Michel? :(

Why want to censure somebody who brings so much to PTE 5.0, from these multiple experiments and of good quality?

According to what I could see and read in all the demonstrations of JPD, they are simply the possibilities that offers and that will offer PTE 5.0 in the future, then if Michel, does not agree with all these experiments, Why do not demonstrate him(her) us the other thing(matter) and then what is that this sir is capable of it?

 There is the problem

Neither posts will be edited more. I'll ask moderators about this.

I'm sorry about this problem!

Friends,

I only would like to ask all to always duplicate postings on English language to prevent possible misunderstandings.

Thanks Igor, I didn't understood why it was neccessary to modify a post during the night, now I understand it wasn't necessary.

please enlighten the english speaking members

Some explanations to Ken, on a french forum, some people say that the tests and tutorials (mine, but also those of TheDom, Lin Evans, Celou and many others) on Wnsoft forum have no interest and my test near ridiculous (I am soft in my translation) and I explained I don't agree at all, what I do, but also what do TheDom, Lin Evans, Celou and many others are usefull, it seems one here doesn't agree and it was what I explained in french ( I am always soft for the translation :P )

I'll stop my explanations and will continue to test PTE V5 even if some doesn't like my tests, and I hope others will also continue to work to help others people.

To day I work on PZR effects with 1440 x 1050 pictures for graphic cards with 32 mb memory, it's a little difficult, but it seems run perfectly for the part I did.

Even if it's possible to use bigger pictures with better graphic cards, it also interesting to have the effects for little PC, at least for one or 2 years.

If people who make Slideshows have often good PC, it's not necessary the same for those who only see a slideshow and there are many people like that.

This possibility show that PTE is a great product... try to do the same with others products !!!!

Thank you very much Jean-Pierre.

As you I praise PTE (my numerous slideshows are there as pieces of evidence !) and I hope I will continue to be able to do so with the future V5... It is nonsense to create public slideshows just for happy fews and I am happy you, and others, work hard to find some simple and easy rules (... and public ones, and not on confidential sites) so that every body can "read" the new coming shows.

I too will change my PC one day, but, concerning informatics, as every body knows, be up to date is only valide for a few months :(

In his original post, Jean-Pierre wrote that he read severe critics on his work on a french forum.

I just answered to Jean-Pierre :

"I don't know where and who made those critics about your work but it appears it is not very nice.

You have a rather technical approach for your work but IMHO it is fundamental to be sure to make projects which can run smooth on almost every PC and avoid disappointments.

Your demo is a perfect illustration of this."

Anyway, for me, the incident is closed and it is my last post about it. :)

Just a clarification so as to avoid misunderstanding. I belive Michel when he says "His place is not on this forum" is actually referring to a "comment" which in English would be to say "its place is not on this forum". Sometimes translating from a romance language (French, Spanish, Portugese, Italian, etc.) where objects have a "gender" to an Old English based language where non animate objects carry the "it" rather than "he or she" the end result can be confused as if Michel were referring to a person. I'm certain this was not the intent.

Best regards,

Lin

Hello JPD,

How can some people criticize your work which is very valuable for the community? What a shame! As it didn't happen on Diaporam@Forum nor on Diapositif, I wonder where it has happened... <_<

Anyway, I ran you new test on an old office PC and it went very smoothly all the way. This machine having a LCD screen, the vertical panoramic was quite unpleasant though as all pixels were being seen while redrawing - nothing to do with your test ! On my PC at home, the image was of a much better quality (22" cathodic screen) but the transitions betwen some movements seemed to have hickups at times. Here are the characteritics of the graphic card on this PC : ATI Radeon 8500, 64 MB Ram; on a Pentium IV, 2.4 MHz and 1024 MB Ram.

Thank you for your efforts !
