mightec Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 I am looking for the best method of zipping my P2E.exe files for inclusion on my web site. I am using WinZip, not sure if there are better software and what be the best compression format. I would welcome your advise. Quote
Gilio Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Mike, I think winzip everybody can unzip this file like I do! Quote
mightec Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 GilioThanks for coming back to me on this, I have WinZip 10.0, not sure if to upgarde to version 11.0? What compression format do you use? Quote
stonemason Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Hi Mike Winrar is also very good, can create either rar files or zip files, and also several other formats.regardsGeoff Quote
Ian Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 The most reliable way of compressing files to ensure that most people can open them is to use the standard Windows zip archive. Right-click on the file from Explorer, and choose "Send To" from the pop-up menu. The first option is to send to a Compressed Folder, which effectively zips the file.Don't forget that your PTE exe file mainly contains jpgs and MP3s, which are compressed files anyway. The zip archive will not compress these any further, so the filesize won't be much different from the initial exe. The benefit is that it will allow most people to download it without being blocked.Ian Quote
mightec Posted April 4, 2007 Author Report Posted April 4, 2007 Geoff/IanThank you for your advise, I had noticed that the compression was minimal, now I understand why. I will look at Winrar, although I understand that WinZip 11.0 can also handle different extensions. Quote
LumenLux Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Although RAR may be very good compression system, in America many PC users aren't set up to "automatically" open it as they are with a Zip file. Therefor some RAR's die on the vine with potential recipients of your show. Quote
Gilio Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Mike, a litle misunderstanding from my site I am always use windows zip not winzip! sorry.about avi-files I use always mpeg 4 and transform this file with IRFANVIEUW to a standallone exe file. only there is no compression possible. Quote
