I was inadvertently dropped from the Forum about 2 months ago. I sent emails to Wnsoft, & Igor with no response. Suddenly a couple of days ago, I received a Forum message. I had all kinds of trouble to reinstate my profile to track messages and now I am trying for the first time since off to send a new reply. Has anyone had this experience on the Forum?

I notice that I have been getting only 1 or 2 Forum emails a day. Is this the true state of the Forum traffic? Also, can someone fill me in on status of PTE v5 betas - what number, or is 5 in final release?

Any short update would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your response Dom - first time I've had an indication that I got through to a Forum member. Somehow I am missing a lot of messages if 10-15 a day go out. How can I get that corrected in Invision? I didn't miss too much as I think I have that version of 5.0. However, I'm still mystified by dropping off, then mysteriously back on, and now only 1 message a day. I have been playing with Vista for many months (and now on full release) but that has not affected any of my other Internet connections.

Hi Bill,

I assume you that you are using 'Vista Home' version with all the Firwall,Bells and Whistles incorporated in it.

Problem being that 'Vista Home' has already been severly ravaged by Hackers and if you were using an older

or pre-release version or non-OEM version, the problems are even greater.

I might be wrong, but the 'erratic' performance of your PC suggests to me that you may have a 5th generation

'Browser Hijacker' infection causing your PC comms-utilities to be rejected by external servers and other Pc's.

Get on to www.trendmicro.com and download a free copy of "CWShredder" and run that.

But firstly disconnect the PC from the Wed (unplug it) and turn off your Anti-Virus, then run the program.

If all is well then OK, its something else.

It may be that your PC Security Settings are set to 'Hi or Custom Level' and thats too high for general Web usage

but it is the default setting in the purchased full version of 'Vista Home' .

Welcome back Bill.

You may already be aware, but I think you can still indicate in your forum settings whether you want email notification of every post or just specific topics, or, just for topics you originate or comment on.

I don't think I have a Vista problem or virus as all my other email newsletter subscriptions and web access are all working well. I have the firewall up, have UAC on the Vista version is a release (Home Premium) and all updates installed. However, I may try your Trend Micro file. Thanks for the input. What's the consensus of final release of v5.0?

Posted

Brian, I could not find CWShredder on the Trend Micro website. I did run House Call, but it found no problems. So the mystery of the limited Wnsoft postings still remains. Well, the one or two I do receive is better than the zero PTE emails of the past 2 months!

Posted

Thanks - I ran it, no CW files found. However, I use Firefox and I noticed that it runs for IE (which a don't use unless there is a M$ requirement which will only use IE!)

What's odd is that I am now getting an occasional email, but only 1 or 2 a day, and TheDom says there are the usual 10-15.

That's what I want to do (as I had previously) - subscribe to the PTE forum. Where do I go to in Invision to do that?

Hi Bill,

Well you tried 'CWShredder' at least you now know its not some "rogue" messing around with your PC.

In connection with Firewalls and AntiVirus and AntiSpam Programs NONE OF THEM are 100% secure

so it always pays to do an occassional "spot-check" with CWShredder or such like.

Next thing to check are your 'Security Settings' ~ If these are set too high your PC will only accept EMails

and Web Mails with a Security Certificate, all others will be rejected.

To check this, get into your Search Page and find ~www.mail2web.com Link Here ~ now logIn with your

EMail Address and your Password. This Mail Program will show ALL your EMails sent to that address.

You can read them at the Server, or Delete them, or reply to them and by comparison it will show you if your

Security Settings are too high.

Hope this is of some help to you...

Brian.Conflow.

P.S

Its also the best Anti-Spam method you can use as nothing is delivered to your PC and all transactions take

place on the Mail2Web Server.

OK, I ran the mail program, but as I had just clicked Send/Receive, there was no mail on the server. I am getting some Forum messages, but the mystery to me is that according to TheDom, there are 10 to 15 messages a day from the Forum, but I'm not getting all of them. All my other email and newsletter subscriptions come in fine.

Hi Bill,

I'm not too sure what you mean (quote)....."OK, I ran the mail program"....did you actually Log-On to Mail2Web and check the "number of EMails" listed there - then compare - to whats shown in your Outlook Express ?

Doing a 'Send/Receive' defeats the Test completely - You must Log-On to Mail2Web and do a comparison.

This comparison tells its own story concerning your Vista Security set-up.

Before I forget ~ Are you running any form of 'Anti-Spam/Adware Program'....?

Just went back to Mail2Web and there were indeed 5 messages for today that did not come into my Inbox - however, no Wnsoft messages. I have been running a rather crippled version of CA AV which is provided free by my Time Warner Roadrunner ISP. In Vista, this as not worked well, and that may have been the problem. TW is upgrading the CA AV for proper Vista compatibly this month. In the meantime, I am installing a trial version of TrendMicro which is recommended by MS as compatible with Vista. We'll see how that goes - thank for the input.

Hi again Bill,

Well, that 'Test' certainly proved the point ~ it would appear to suggest that something's wrong with your AV.

Just a few little "Tips"

1) When you remove the 'Old AV' always use a good registry Cleaner such as 'IoBit WinCareV2' LINK HERE--> http://iobit.com (Its Free) this to remove all the junk that may/will interfer with your New AV.

2) Personally I would go for the 40 day Trial of 'Kaspersky Lab ~ it really is the best for Vista, and Worlds best.

Glad to be of help...
