Big Kev
I have do doubt that someone else will have experienced this problem but 'I have not as yet found it on the forumI have a 'project' that was created in version 4.48 and as I still have 4.48 on the computer I can open it to alter or update. However to ensure that the original remained intact I saved it with a different file name. When I had finished I made a new exe file and this it ok however when I saved the project it appears to automatically save it as a version 5 file which then cannot be opened again in 4.48.Also and more worryingly when in V5 the preview sticks on transitions although it appears ok using the timeline and the transitions are not smooth....What am I doing wrong?Your help please
nobeefstu
Big Kev,When you open a v4.48 file in v5.0 and save it ... it will be saved as a v5.0 file and is not backwards compatable. You did a wise move to make a copy first. Only way to save a v4.48 file is to open it in the v4.48 PTE.Question: Does the compiled exe show perform correctly or with the same issues as in the Preview ? Try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Project Options/Screen checkbox to compare results.
Big Kev
Thanks for the reply Stu.Just to clarify the problem I am experiencing I did a little test-Firstly I made a new project using 4.48 and saved it as 'Test'I then exited the program and then went back in to 4.48 and was able to open the project without any problems....so far so good.Whilst the project was open I then used 'save as' and saved the project as 'Test2' and went to exit the program again. Before allowing me to do so, it asked if I wanted to save the original 'Test' project...and as most people would do when asked I said 'yes' and then exited the program. However when I went back into v4.48 Test2 would open but I was unable to open the 'Test' project as it had now been saved as a V5 project and 'wasn't supported'!!I could open it in V5 but then found that the 'Preview' didn't work correctly - some of the pictures didn't appear and the transitions didn't work correctly. However they seemed to be ok when viewed in the timeline window. If I am not careful then all my original 4.48 projects could become unusable if they are changed just by the act of saving on my exiting 4.48.Any ideas Stu.....or Igor? nobeefstu
Big Kev,Whilst the project was open I then used 'save as' and saved the project as 'Test2' and went to exit the program again. Before allowing me to do so, it asked if I wanted to save the original 'Test' project...and as most people would do when asked I said 'yes' and then exited the program. However when I went back into v4.48 Test2 would open but I was unable to open the 'Test' project as it had now been saved as a V5 project and 'wasn't supported'!!One must be very carefull/protective of the originals/sources when using various versions of .pte files and multiple program PTE versions installed on the same PC ... as file corruptions/changes can easily be introduced and become irreversible. I suggest to always safely keep the final/originals in a zip container and extract for use when needed. Using multiple versions of any program ... not just PTE ... can create some undesired results in the merging of versions. Many software programs wont allow multiple program versions installed due to the file conflicts/corruptions that can be introduced.I could open it in V5 but then found that the 'Preview' didn't work correctly - some of the pictures didn't appear and the transitions didn't work correctly. However they seemed to be ok when viewed in the timeline window.Portions of PTE v5.0 core/architecture is vastly different than that of v4.48. A v4.48 file opened in v5.0 PTE may not Preview/Complie 100% exactly as when created in v4.48 PTE. The new v5.0 has omitted some feature settings/elements and enhanced many with additional settings/elements. For example the Screen Options changes ... v5.0 now uses Aspect Ratio of a Slide settings and Objects and Animations settings on how the user wants the image displayed. Using some Screen settings in v4.48 files when opened in v5.0 PTE can/will create some visual image differences. In reality ... the new v5.0 features, new settings and also new default values ... can overall change the older v4.48 presentation without you ever making any v5.0 settings/changes when Previewed/Compiled.As for "some of the pictures didn't appear " ... verify if the image shows in the Slide List. If the image is not displayed in the Slide List, it may be that the original image is missing from its path location referenced within the .pte file. Conflow
Big Kev,Your Quoted:-...."Whilst the project was open I then used 'save as' and saved the project as 'Test2' and went to exit the program again. Before allowing me to do so, it asked if I wanted to save the original 'Test' project...and as most people would do when asked I said 'yes' and then exited the program".....Yes Kev, you are quite correct, I found the same "ambiguity" ~ where after making an Exe ~ Pte4.48 says the File has been changed, do you want to save the Changes ?....Most people say Yes. Then when you try to reload this new *pte File strange things start to happen...So with me I always say "NO"There is a definite "ambiguity" here, why should the *pte File change after making an Exe ? and why does this new *pte File behave differently now ?Brian.Conflow. jfa
I've always wondered what was happening here to, answered NO, shrugged my shoulders and moved on. Glad someone has asked the question. Looking forward to the answer.
